Kizaru looks underwhelming exactly because he fought Goofy who was out of his league
His accelerated kick, which knocked back G4 Snakeman, was undermined by Goofy being more hurt by Vegapunk's barriers
His lasers, attacks which are supposedly unblockable, got eaten by his G5 going toon
He kept running away from the battle and then got knocked out by an attack that is mid-tier in Goofy's arsenal at best
Actually, his lasers even got negged by Sanji's power of love.
Compare that to Nasjuro who managed to look more lethal and destructive with Shodai Kitetsu alone
Okay, cliffhanger tension then. But it all went downhill from there when Goofy undermined his status and when he couldn't even KO Sentomaru for more than a chapter

None of this actually explains why I should care about Punk’s and Kizaru’s relationship though.
And I don’t hate Kizaru lol. Just because I trash talk Admirals in powerscaling debates doesn’t mean I hate any of them as characters (GB’s the only one I think is a trash character). I’ve said he was an absolute menace in Sabaody and had one of the best intros in the manga. I said that his and Sentomaru’s relationship was actually pretty well written. Much better than Kizaru’s and Punk’s relationship, where Oda never showed them having any chemistry with each other.
I’ve pushed for Kizaru dying because he’s the most expendable Admiral, especially now that his connections to Vegapunk are exhausted. There’s really nothing else left for him in the story other than being a side gig in whatever arc Luffy fights Akainu. I simply believe that Kizaru sacrificing himself to save Kuma and Bonney from Saturn would’ve been a better end to his character than him being a future Zoro/Sanji victim
