I think it is important to mention that majority of Akainu’s moments post ts if not all are with his comrades in the Navy clearly showing another side of his character, but don't be mistaken, this man hasn't died (hopefully) and the unrivalled hate and cold heart for the Pirates is still there.

Aside from Big Mom being clowned in combat, do you think what we got from her story was adequate? And that the missing piece was her being competent in combat?

I think what we got with Big Mom was enough, it was just a misuse of her in Wano
She got one of the better flashback in the series, her motivation was understandable, and she was just a mad force of nature, which is not that interesting but coherent

Kaidos shit just went nowhere and doesn't even make sense, on top of being presented shit like his flashback. His suicidal nature goes nowhere and he falls into the trap hole of other characters where you ask yourself behind your back "if you wanted so badly why you sit on your ass 99% of the time in wano?"

The fact a 68 year old woman was still interpreting Caramel's "dream" in such a literal way that had real life consequences on Punk Hazard (who knows how many children dying to Caesar's botched experiments) makes me really, really hate her character. There's no coming back from that.
