Honestly I think it's simply Oda that keeps retconning this ability because it's perfect for stalling.
We know for a fact that he retconned it once in Wano with Marco's kick and onigiri making King bleed just for Zoro to later say stronger attacks do nothing.

Who’s a bigger dumbass king or queen

• Queen was holding back throughout his his fight taking unnecessary damage and even hurting himself at a certain point. All because he wanted to see the raid suit
• King unnecessarily turning his flame off multiple time. Could’ve beat zoro if he stayed in the air but didn’t because pride. Could’ve beat zoro if he stayed in his flame mode and let enma kill zoro through koh mode but didn’t because zoro made fun of his and insulted his pride

I still think the Vivre cards are using an absolute defense wording cause they don’t know how the fuck it really works. Cause if it is super durability, how did Zoro stab him when King used Jackpot… it just makes no sense

Ryokugyu timeline has him capturing Weevil before going to Wano so we can put to rest the theories of him getting attacked by Marco/Cross Guild to free Weevil as he clearly not in charge of him anymore

So Apoo with 3 numbers as back up thinks taking on Drake is a risk? Whereas Drake doesn’t hesitate to fight all of them?

It is not even a choice of damage resistance or increased speed. It is damage nullification or increased speed. Who on earth would choose a mere speed boost over flat out invulnerability? Especially in a verse where you can get faster by gitting gud. Nobody can git gud to flat out ignore damage. Lol.

It at least implies that all attacks are faster in speed mode, so it gives King a reason to have used it with Omori Karyudon
