From story perspective, it's been highlighted twice by Garp that Kuzan was hesitating when fighting him.
1. When Garp used Blue Hole and said that wavering is a sign of weakness to Kuzan*.
2. And then Garp calls him soft when Kuzan looks out for his health in the middle of battle despite they're being enemies.
And now regarding the context of the Garp and Kuzan fight:
-Garp with Marine SWORD holding back Kuzan and BBP pirates for some time.
-Garp was distracted by Koby and got wounded by Shiryu (calling him a small thug from impel down)*, which weakened him to some extent.
- Garp exchanged hits with Kuzan, and finally Kuzan impaled him with his DF, leading him to his defeat.
*Interestingly, Shiryu only found opening when he was distracted; he efficiently broke his iron body, which contributed faster to his defeat.
*Due to their past relationships as mentor and protege in Marine.
Addendum:
1. Garp slammed Shiryu and called him a small time thug from Impel Down, which implied he doesn't respect him much or he knows so well about his reputation.
2. In the same chapter, Kuzan said that only he can fight Garp effectively.
3. As confirmed by Blackbeard in the latest chapter, including Him, only Kuzan could possibly beat Garp in the Hachinosu.
Now, context from the past doesn't invalidate the event that happened in the present timeline.
Kuzan saying that together they're finally defeating Garp doesn't invalidate that it was Kuzan who put in the most work to achieve that goal (Blackbeard indirectly confirmed only him and Kuzan who could possibly defeat Garp in this chapter). And it doesn't mean that Shiryu doesn't contribute to hastening Garp's defeat at the hands of Blackbeard pirates.
Finally, the narrative that Kuzan fights all out with Garp would be questionable at best. When Garp points two times in a row that his resolution was wavering when fighting with him (see points 1 and 2). Which leads to either Kuzan is playing dumb in this chapter or Garp is a liar, when we already know as a reader that their bond runs deep in the past.
Looking at the bigger picture, it's clear as day that it was Kuzan who contributed more to Garp's defeat, followed by Shiryu and then the rest of the Blackbeard pirates.
Hopefully this could balance the perspective in this forum.
