Two of my favorite characters of GoT are fighting to death.
I haven't read the books idk anything about how strong they are, this is about the TV series.

The Hound is just a level above him, Bronn is good but his best showings are using underhanded tactics against knights like Vardis, but it's not like the hound is above fighting dirty either.
Bronn was also completely unwilling to fight the Mountain, someone who the Hound was able to contest evenly. Clegane's also bigger, stronger, and has superior reach. Prime Sandor is one of the best living fighters in his time, Bronn is just a decent sellsword in comparison.

Yeah so for anyone who hasn’t read the books:

GOT season 1 covers this scene but not as thoroughly as the book does. At the Hand’s tourney, the Hound and the Mountain fight 1v1. They have an extended clash where Gregor is bloodlusted and is swinging huge killing blows at Sandor. Sandor is not wearing his helmet, and Gregor is specifically aiming for Sandor’s head because of this fact. Sandor parries every single one of Gregor’s blows without throwing back any killing blows of his own, because Sandor didn’t want to kill Gregor but just wanted to stop him from rampaging.

Bronn, very wisely, knew he couldn’t fight the Mountain. Sandor not only fought the Mountain equally, but Gregor was bloodlusted and Sandor didn’t go for the kill while fighting him.

Sandor was Kingsguard, considered to be the seven best knights in all of Westeros. There has definitely been some falsity to that idea with many Kingsguard members, but not Sandor. Sandor was named to Joffrey’s Kingsguard in spite of the fact that he was not a Knight. The first and only Kingsguard in history to not be a Knight. And right in front of Joffrey, Sandor was like “yeah I’ll join the Kingsguard but I’m not swearing a Knight’s vows.” And then somebody (I forgot who) objects to that, saying all Kingsguard historically swore Knights vows. And Sandor was like “then I’ll be the first who won’t do that” and nobody challenges him.

Bronn is a sellsword.

But if we’re taking the TV show into account, it just gets worse.

In the books, Brienne of Tarth beats Loras Tyrell in a melee. Loras Tyrell is basically like a slightly less skilled version of Jaime Lannister. Well, we all saw in the TV show where a starved and very out of shape Sandor pretty much stalemated Brienne…

Yeah it’s just not a contest man lol. Bronn is legit in that one shot territory for the Hound.

Bronn has a chance, a very good one.

In a Feast for Crows, Jaime Lannister inner monologues about a vassal wanting to fight and kill the Hound. Jaime dismisses this, thinking that the Hound fights too aggressively (and recklessly) and the retainer who wants to take the Hound Down just isn’t going to be able to adapt.

Then you have Bronn, famous for tossing a knight of the Vale out the sky door, who fights underhanded. Iirc in the books he’s nothing special but a talented sellsword without an ounce of morals.

But that might be enough to take out the Hound, he’s not going to be fighting him like 90% of the other opponents. he isn’t an actual knight and he’s not some inexperienced gin alley back knife.

Bronn is a skilled fighter, there's some disrispect on him in this thread lol. But the Hound takes it. Bronn was concerned about facing the Mountain (and in fact backed out, the risk wasn't worth it), I think he'd have been even more concerned about the Hound. Sandor is still freakishly powerful, but more skilled and agile than his brother.

Like, prime Jaime vs Sandor would be a very tough fight. Jaime is better but you can't play around with the Hound lol. That's the ballpark he's in, despite not getting quite the same amount of fame as others.

TV series Bronn executes him, being the Master of Coin
jk, but in all honesty they were both op in the show so ig it could go either way with Bronn having the edge with his speed and street smarts

Sandor wins but again as @God Buggy said Bronn's being disrespected here a lot lol
He's a mercenary without loyalty to Tyrion so ofcourse fighting the Mountain wasn't worth the risk.
In the books Tyrion even tells Bron: "You're almost as good as my brother Jaime."
Which again I wouldn't say it's the case but it goes to show that Bronn is no average fighter lol.

And yeah why should he have risked fighting the Mountain? Bronn was already in a good position back then (standing wise). Like, nah. Lol.
