Shiryu & King are nothing alike but I digress.
With regards to Sanji v King, I was never on that train though I did think there was a distinct possibility of it happening if Oda was going to have Zoro focus on Kaido instead. All tings being equal Sanji was never going to fight King though I get the appeal for it from an aesthetic point of view.
Not really going to go into why I think Sanji will be fighting Lafitte already given my detailed thoughts in
another thread.
On Lafitte v Brook, if you think a character like Brook fights one of the most prominent BB Pirates then I don’t know what to tell you 💀.
Saying Nami will flight Laffite simply bcoz they are Navigators is also a very short-sighted take but to each their own. Already gave my detailed thoughts on why I think these two matchups are unlikely in the aforementioned thread 🙏🏿
Do you mean this one?
Arguments for Sanji v Laffite
Already made most of this points in the video I posted earlier but I'll just summarize it here:
- Ship Role
I don't think the SHs are going to be matched-up against the BB Pirates based on "Ship Roles" but if you want to die on that hill then you'll also have to acknowledge the fact that Lafitte in addition to being the Navigator of the Blackbeard Pirates is also the "Staff Officer", a position Oda has already stated that Sanji implcitly occupies in the SHs. Moreover, "Staff Officer" is a position of authority in a group. Some examples of people with similar positions are Sabo, Tsuru, Gambia and Kabaji. These are all powerful characters in their respective organizations.
Sabo is the second in command in the Revos. Tsuru is one of the major figures of the marines and also a marine Doffy actively avoided confrontation with several years ago. Gambia is the only other relevant Barto Pirates and Barto's second in command. Kabaji was the 2nd in command of the Buggy Pirates and one of Zoro's previous opponents. So this argument that the Staff Officer might be weak coz they are smart is nonsense. Hell Sanji himself is testament to that.
- Blackbeard Pirates v Ace
Lafitte was the only Blackbeard Pirate that came out of that fight clean and Oda even highlighted him casually evading Ace's attack that all of the other members of the crew including Blackbeard fell prey to. This was pre-ts mind you.
- Keeps Crew Members in Check
*Pizarro states that he was going to steal Blackbeard's seat and become Captain and Laffite instantly shuts him down saying he'll rip him to shreds if the tried. Fast forward to post-time skip and Pizarro is now Teach's bitch. Regardless of how that came to be, this is Laffite threatning to kill a level 6 impel down level 6 prisoner and keeping decorum in the crew if he steps out of hand.
*On DR when Burgess referred to Teach casually, Lafitte scolded him and asked him to refer to Teach with honorifics.
- Blackbeard Pirates vs Aokiji
Lafitte was the one that instigated a fight with Aokiji but yet, he also came out of that confrontation clean, whilst the likes of Pizarro, Vasco and Wolf etc. were frozen stiff.
- Important Missions
Teach constantly entrusts Laffite with important missions one of which was to infiltrate Marineford and crash a Shichibukai meeting to nominate Teach as a Shichibukai. He's also currently being entrusted with some other very important mission from Teach hence why we haven't seen him since Dressrosa. Don't think it's an overstatement to state that when Laffite is doing something In the background something big happens with the Blackbeard Pirates. The man is a plot mover.
- Lafitte's Initial Designs
In Laffite's initial designs in his Vivre Card, he was a character known as "Silver" who Blackbeard was trying to recruit as a "partner" from what appeared to be Whitebeard's ship. We've only seen this kind of treatment given to certain type of characters like Marco, King and even then they were not specifically asked to be a "partner" but rather a "subordinate"
Lafitte's potrayal speaks for itself.
Ship Roles and all of that aside, if you wanna know Sanji's opponent, look at things like portrayal and rank.
It is clear as day that Lafitte has much better portrayal than characters like Pizarro or Vasco.
- "Staff Officer" is bs, by ship role everyone knows he is navigator and he shares role with Nami.
- "Didn't get hype tooled by Ace" okay but why is that points to he fighting Sanji the regular punching bag and hype tool?
- "Keep members in check", again, why is that points to him vs Sanji?
The one who making sure Usopp rejoined only after he apologized first was Zoro, not Sanji. The one who told Luffy to stop fooling around in PH was Zoro, not Sanji.
So why is Lafitte fighting Sanji because he keeps members in check?
- "Important missions". Not sure why this also points to Lafitte fighting Sanji. Sure Sanji opened Ennies Lobby door and saved Momo. But the one who broke Mother Carmel's photo was Brook, the one who made Dressrosa gladiators change sides was Usopp, the one who burned flag was Usopp, the one saved Luffy in Thriller Bark and tanked Hakai was Zoro, the one who saved Zou was Chopper.
Important moments weren't all given to Sanji within Straw Hats.
- "Initial name as "Silver". Silver Rayleigh was Zoro's counterpart not Sanji. We don't even know Scopper Gaban will counterpart Sanji, he probably resembles Jinbe more because both are helmsman.
So again, why initial name as Silver points to Lafitte fighting Sanji?
Lafitte shares more with Brook than Sanji with their design and weapon. If you don't think so maybe you underestimate Brook and among the one never thinking Brook would be the MVP in WCI, same arc Sanji spent crying like a bitch and kicking Luffy like ungrateful traitor; or overestimate Lafitte so much, or both.
