One side we got Oda who doesn't care about mother's.
Other side we got pokemon where they don't care about father's.
Japan managaka's got parents issues.
Yeah 100%, a lot of these mangaka must have grown up without both parents in their lives, well one missing at least, usually the father. Like a lot of us growing up with our fathers typically at work (if they didn't pussy out and abandon their kids) and our mothers at home raising us traditionally or working part time too like mine did as she raised me alone too (my family didnt care to help either but now she slaves away for decades for them, almost driving herself to death to help them and get nothing in return for it) and I suspect Oda's father was never around for him due to work or w/e, hence why he writes so many deadbeat dads in One Piece. He also said mothers are the "death" or opposite of adventure so there's that too. I understand why he would say it but its still unhinged and sexist, but god knows Oda loves sexism lmao.
Huh, well this is interesting:
Mangakas loves killing off mothers too, the beginning of AOT fucked me up immensely on that too. I'm constantly in fear of losing my mother with her escalating health issues and working herself to death especially after losing my grandmother and watching her health fall apart for similar reasons too and seeing mothers get killed off, especially so brutally really upsets me on a personal level too naturally. Mothers and children.
Its bad enough to see any parent die regardless ofc too though, not just mothers but fathers too.
I have wondered since a lot of mangaka would have grown up living the direct consequences of the world wars on Japan and thus the nukings, how that must have made life immensely difficult beyond anything we could understand and comprehend and thus how its affected and inspired their outlooks, personalities and thus art/work too. I sometimes wonder if I'm being too harsh on them, as they've lived experiences I will probably and as horriblly selfish and insensitive as it sounds, hopefully never will understand directly and thus it really factors ino their stories, their art.
I still cant believe how much Japan bounced back and so swiftly too, to flourish this much and become one of the most advanced countries in the world, well even the most advanced technologically I mean (although they are also still extremely and deliberately backwards with a lot of technology/infrastructure and other things ofc)!
On a semi related note, I cant believe how much Oda fucked us over and trolled us with Ushimaru lol:
Why not just make him Zoro's father? What was the point especially with his identical resemblance? He had the fucking Green Bulls on his cloak too sigh lol. Oda was probably butthurt we guessed it and expected it.
