Who are the fictional characters that you know, love wholeheartedly, and can also relate to based on your personality and real-life story ?
For me, it's Shrek and Donkey from DreamWorks. My real-life story is similar to Shrek's. Shrek is a lovable person who, due to bad things continually happening in his life, involuntarily isolated himself from the world and, for a time, was a sullen person who didn't know how to have fun and enjoy life. But eventually, a series of good things happen in his life, making him come out of his shell and embrace the good things in life and the outside world.
My growing up phase was similar. My teenage years were when the problems caused by my Asperger's syndrome got bigger. I developed feelings of sadness and anger about my life, and repressed them. I spent some time being a grumpy person, pushing away people my own age who tried to befriend me, and not knowing how to be happy. I was uncooperative with many therapists who tried to help me, and I spent a few years suffering internally without being able to free myself. This ended when I reached my breaking point and snapped, in a sad episode here at home. That sad episode served as a wake up call for me to realize that I was causing my own suffering, by not opening up to those who were trying to help me and not taking action to solve my problems. After that, I started trying hard to solve my problems and today my life is in order.
At that time, similar to Shrek, due to my bad mental state, I thought that I had no interest in the good things in life, like making friends and doing fun activities. But after I saw the light, I'm keen to having these things in my life. Since I resolved my problems, I have shown my true self as a sweet, lovable and nice young man when interacting with everyone, and this has made my life easier and more peaceful. I am currently in the process of starting a new phase of studies, to make it better than my school life, and create a daily routine where I can make the most of my time.
I can also relate to Donkey, as he has had a troubled life and developed a strong desire for friendship and happiness. Like him, I have quirks, but I'm not as much of an oddball as him. Donkey is also a character I look up to. While his backstory has yet to be revealed(It may be revealed in his upcoming spin-off.), it seems like he's the type of person who hasn't let the bad things in his life define him. He always talks about how troubled his past was, but nowadays he is an witty and fun-loving person who knows how to enjoy every situation. I want to be like him. I want to let my past influence me in a positive way, and shape me into a cheerful person.
