The idea that Admirals hold back due to collateral damage was an obvious take for years, but got called fanboyism and cope. Even after it was confirmed and stated 3 times in a single chapter, people still call it cope.

Big Mom’s shortcomings never had any justification either. I don’t think Oda ever justified Big Mom getting facefucked by Motorcycle Franky, or rolled out of the manga by Jinbe and Robin. These things never had any in-verse explanation, they simply happened because Big Mom is a giant scrub and Oda enjoys humiliating her.

Recently It was even debated if Kizaru and Kuzan were holding back, something that was beyond clear in any way possible. We had to wait for someone to actually spell It out and even then, It was not enough.
