I honestly don't think it's a cope or anything of that sort. If y'all notice his words are specifically: "Because I calculated, I could defeat him through a direct confrontation without even exploiting that weakness."

And Sou'ou's words: "But because you chose to engage in your Direct Confrontation and lost... Akou and Denrimi are dead!!"

The weakness that Ousen found for Riboku isn't directly on the battlefield related. But something related to Riboku as a person, something that would also allow him to employ him. It's not like he's saying he'd beat Riboku in a direct confrontation like they've had.

And if I'm thinking of what that weakness is.... It'll be related to the two scenes that happen 2-3 chapters before Ousen's statement, the fatty and Riboku's lack of grand ambition aka not being greedy.

Kyou Rei was a legitimate challenge to Kyou Kai five years ago. I have Tou at #3 but he's been getting older while Kyou Rei not even in her prime yet.
