Character Discussion Kizaru Vs Aokiji, Which Character Is Better Written?

The two most fleshed out characters out of the 5 color admirals (as of 12/31/2024 - I have no doubt Issho and Sakazuki will be in discussion eventually).

Which character do people prefer and why?

If I had to guess, Oda will actually die before we ever get the full stories he intends to write for them

I mean it would really just be a hard guess.

If Oda carries thru with the Sakazuki redemption vs Warcury agenda, he is simply the best Shonen character of all time.

Very difficult this one.

The BB-Aokiji FB was beautiful and Aokiji's development started in EL. However, Kizaru's development overall was increbile.

I think both aren't finished anyway.

Aokiji has the potential to be better though, depending on what Oda does with him.
When you have a character go through two opposite sides of a spectrum, you can use him to show more complex themes & ideals.

We'll have to see Kuzan's journey before we can comment. I think Oda's going to bungle it up in all honesty and have him be a secret spy. If Kuzan is legitimately supporting Blackbeard for his own agenda, there's a lot of potential. Otherwise Borsalino.

Kuzan imo. He is the perfect natural step for someone who was trained by Garp where garps justice is just him doing his own thing within the marines for justice where Kuzan outgrows the marines entirely in his justice

Kuzan by far. Kizaru is written like an obedient worker who can't go against CDs even if someone close to him is being target directly.

Right now they're around equal but Kuzan’s potential for a great ending is way higher. I think Kizaru is a pretty much done character, he just needs to get beaten.

I don't like comparing characters' writing between each other because for example with real people you would not say someone's personality is better than someone else's unless you just preffer the personality of either one

But both Aokiji and Kizaru are incredible

Not really like that though.

1 - Vegapunk was Indeed a criminal, and wanted to side with a pirate.
Kizaru wanted to save him because he was his friend, not becuase he thought was right to do so.
Overall, in Kizaru's eyes was "just" to kill Vegapunk becuase of his crimes, CD's order or not. He just didn't want to for personal reasons;

2 - anyway, Kizaru in fact betrayed the Goverment.

Kuzan is better written to me but Kizaru is also written very well.

I don’t think Kizaru is done character wise, even when he eventually loses.

Kuzan is in the OP contender so he probably will get more screen time

Aokiji’s moral conflict is more appealing, he’s a cooler character because he suffered a great upset with his loss to Akainu. Kizaru is more of a straight shooter, and there’s really not much to know as things are now. Kuzan on the other hand is a total mystery same with Akainu, it will be hard to predict their future actions
As a logia Kizaru’s fruit has always been my least favorite out of the three, I guess that plays a role in whom you like more

I’d say Kuzan is the more cohesive character and we’re guaranteed to see a conclusion. Kizaru‘s added characterization was a pleasant surprise in Egghead but that might be all we get.

Kuzan’s character is also more cliché but I think he’s well-executed so that doesn’t matter. Oda’s done a good job depicting his inner conflicts and he’s one of those guys that immediately pops up in my head when I think of better written characters in OP.
