Hardest poll I've come across pretty much every marine in the story is written incredibly well but especially these two,

Aokiji is more interesting easily. Kizaru is just a cog in the wheel whose only emotional moment is now worthless because VP never died after all
People say “cog in the machine” when the context of that was with respect to the severity of the crime.

Say your friend/family member was a mass murderer or perpetrator of some crazy crime and you’re a police officer, it’s over for them despite your friendship.

Kizaru's conflict was more touching and impactful but the buildup and overall execution was not enough. It might improve when we get more info on him.

Kuzan's had better buildup and better execution but I don't think it felt as emotional as Kizaru's.

I'm ultimately voting Kizaru, partly out of bias, but also because I think his conflict has more overall potential regarding his future in the series.

I'm just 50/50 on what'll happen to him. Is he a future Zoro/Sanji victim, will he betray the WG in an impactful way, will it turn out that this was a false alert and it turns out he was more evil than we thought? etc.

I just feel there's potential there. There's got to be a reason Oda went out of his way to portray him this way, constantly make him play around in almost every fight he's been in, never use an animal themed attack, directly portray him as a foil to Luffy (Monkey vs monkey, same bounty, theme of being a slave as opposed to being the Warrior of Liberation) etc.

He feels like the most "held back" Admiral overall and I think Egghead might really change that for better or worse.

That's why the moment where he cried to Akainu was special. Now, it's been revealed that it was useless, in retrospect, the moment has been cheapened a lot. So he's just a dude following orders rn

Kizaru for now but Kuzan has more potential. If Oda does well with Kuzan's character then he will be the better written character for sure.

Kuzan is one of the best written characters in One Piece, has been since his introduction, and will likely continue to do so into the future.

Kizaru feeding Luffy just killed everything tragic and compelling about him in Egghead for me, and he doesn’t have much else to talk about other than that arc.

I’d also argue Fujitora was just as fleshed out in Dressrosa as Kizaru has been. Just because we don’t have his backstory doesn’t mean we don’t have a fair grip of the character, which I feel is much more consistent and stronger than Kizaru’s.

Sakazuki was an effective villain in Marineford (obviously) but has been a massive let down post skip. We were promised a guy who was moving the Marines to the New World to take on the Yonko. Two Yonko have fallen, the others are making moves and that promise has not been delivered on so far at all. He’s likely in the same boat as Dragon of characters Oda is just refusing to use until the determined time, to their detriment.

It’s too early to judge Ryokogyu, but it has not been an overly compelling start.

The two most fleshed out characters out of the 5 color admirals (as of 12/31/2024 - I have no doubt Issho and Sakazuki will be in discussion eventually).

Which character do people prefer and why?

Kuzan is more well-written.

Kizaru has the better vibes, design and power.

Saying that we even got a backstory for Kizaru is a bit of a stretch. He was basically just a borderline irrelevant background character in Kuma’s backstory

1124 is backstory chapter with a title.

Considering half a page of Kuzan and Garp made for a five minute flashback in the anime with beautiful animation I think you’ll probably get like 10 for Kizaru.

Me when I misread a character and then get mad when everyone I argued with online is right.
