Oda is sexist, nothing new. I unironically think that BM is one of his best written female characters lmfao. He just handled her poorly come Wano.
Even then, her final moment had good writing with how she was still portrayed as this unbeatable force, her inner dialogue was also pretty good talking about Roger. The way that nobody can hear her in her final moments was a good parallel to when she can’t hear Mother Carmel’s pleas for help… she received a poetic justice type of end.
Overall, she has one of the best handled final moments, way more interesting than Kaido having a lame mini-flashback and thinking about Joyboy for example.
Big Mom had such amazing potential both as a character, and with her abilities, it's such a shame that she had been treated and portrayed in such an abysmal way after the Tea Party and in Wano.
All that potential gone to shit due to Oda's sexism and inability to know what to do with her, with shits such as the wedding cake chase, the waterfall excuse, her amnesia, her being nerfed and clowned so many times and that utter farce of a "fight" with Kid and Law at Onigashima and the bomb bs. It's one of my greatest grievances toward the Yonko Saga, post-ts and Oda himself.
She should have been treated with as much badassery and respect and a titanic portrayal as her colleagues Kaido, Whitebeard and Shanks.
And her relations with her children and other crewmates such as Tamago or Bobbin, as well as her relations with Xebec, Roger and her former crewmates in the Rocks Pirates could have been developped and explored further. Her relation with Streusen in particular, as he's her original crewmate and father figure, and her "King of Hearts", the small and easily overlooked but essential person who keeps her fed and is the only person capable of really calming and influencing her, could have been a great story to tell.
I am afraid of what Oda will do with her once he brings her back.
