At some point in the evolutionary history of hominids, God directly infused a pair of human souls into what was, then, the first pair of humans, Adam & Eve.

When exactly this occurred, I don't really know.

I would also note that as a cause can't give to an effect what is not in the cause, human souls aren't passed down biologically or anything; each unique homosapien conceived is directly infused by God with a rational soul

Well, our human bias says human>animal. Would you spare animals if your or your loved ones were starving? No, nobody would. It's the same for other species. Your pet Chihuahua would try to kill you if it happened to be starved.
