Character Discussion Characters for who Oda had plans before ditching them ?

Who are some characters in One Piece who you think that Oda initially had big plans for them when he introduced them and used them first, before changing if not outright abandoning his plans for them and leaving them in the sidelines and/or with a smaller role they were to have at first ?

What are the plans that you think Oda had in mind for them at first before changing his mind ?

Carrot.

I think she was introduced to become a strawhat. It's the only explanation that make sence with the way her story was narrated in Whole Cake. BUT something happened and Oda clearly moved away from this idea. And you can sense this simply by the way people are reacting to the "end" of her story in Wano. Something does not add up.

I could be wrong of course, but I think he will compensate for that change in the final war. Which I'm okay with.

Probably Carrot. Most characters get some sort of spotlight or he's leaving them for later, but Carrot was fairly important in Whole Cake then Wano included her only to not really give her a satisfying end to any of her plotlines then removed her and had her become successor to the Neku. Such a shame, maybe Oda will get back to her during the final war when Zunesha moves again, but I don't know.

Personally I'm happy Carrot and Yamato did not join at Wano so they would not have egghead outfits,

This time I agree with you. It looked like Carrot was supposed to have a bigger role in the story and become at the very least a honorary Straw Hat like Vivi before changing his mind, and having her become the ruler of Zou out of nowhere as a way to wrap up her story even though she clearly wanted to sail and explore the world.

Kidd - He was built up to be one of Luffy's top rivals from the worst generation but has never lived up to the lofty expectations placed on him.
Gaimon - Dude is still just chilling back on the Island of Rare Animals.
Alvida - She got to join Buggy's crew and has all but disappeared from the story.
Chopper - I doubt he was just supposed to be a mascot-type character.
Personally I'm happy Carrot and Yamato did not join at Wano so they would not have egghead outfits,
I am also happy that neither of them joined the crew.
I believe Carrot was always going to take the position of leader of the minks.
Yamato is overrated and doesn't feel like a Straw Hat as she doesn't have her own dream/goals/ambition.

Kyoshiro (and majority of the scabbards really)
Kyoshiro was a real waste of potential. However, I think he'll still retroactively earn relevance as a parallel to the Gorosei who ends up betraying IMU, and whose backstory (maybe down to the hair color change) will be a copy-paste of Kyoshiro's.
