Yea the Mihawk battle can be the separator but it depends on when it happens. Sanji will also surpass Gaban too.

Luffy will leave Roger in the dust for sure, so the M3 will follow to an extent.

The SH going to be fight more crazy people than roger pirates ever did so they will surpass them .
First BB was the power creep and then you had Imu .

For years now, after it was revealed that Roger was a swordman, people ask this question :

Was Roger the WSS of his time ?

The question was legitimate because for what we knew Roger was the strongest guy with a blade at that time so it makes sense that he was the WSS. And the fact that the WSS was never mentioned in Oden’s flashback raise, once more, the legitimacy of the title.

But with this chapter we finally have an answer there was no WSS in Roger’s time because Roger = Rayleigh = Gaban.
Roger could not be the WSS because he was not stronger than Rayleigh.

They cannot be a WSS if the two strongest swordsmen of the time are equal.

This chapter also close the debate between Shanks and Mihawk.
