Distance or Difference simply means "What Separates us or what Stands between us",
It's just a different way of saying: "If He decided to appear so close to us from the Start, why don't We just Attack him directly",

If Mihawk was testing WB's Legendary Strength, He would Use a much more Powerful Attack,
But He knows that as Leader of Invasion, He cannot be allowed to be the First to Test any Attack,
So Mihawk wanted to check "Who is gonna delay us from just Engaging WB directly?",
And the Answer was Introduction of WB Commanders

The Same Phrase can be used if for example you met Celestial Dragon Charlos but don't know who are CDs,
You'd wonder what Stops anyone from just Attacking them directly? The Answer is because Admirals, Marines & WG stand in between,
It has nothing to do with Strength nor Distance

Zoro also does this Test multiple times, He did it against Hody, He did it against Hawkins, He did it against Orochi,
Why these Three? Because They weren't Alone nor Close, so you need to first check with a Small Ranged Attack,

It also makes Mihawk emotionally retarded
He thinks a man that pulled up to take on the world has not a crew that would die for him
Mihawk: "I need to measure the true distance between me and Whitebeard.":Dono_Fui:

*Sends slash. YC2 Jozu blocks.*

"Wallahi, I'm finished!" :HekiOver:

Apparently that is what happened instead of Mihawk wanting to test Whitebeard's strength. Naw, apparently he wanted to test feckin Jozu, Marco or Vista instead.

Like, Mihawk is a Top Tier who is also a blood knight character. Why would Whitebeard's subordinates even interest him to begin with? You would think the only opponent at that point in the entire battlefield that would be of interest Mihawk would be Whitebeard himself.

But again, apparently nobody slanders Mihawk like the Sworddies on here do. :kayneshrug:

I think it can be interpreted as Mihawk expecting WB’s commanders to interfere and protect him.

That’s why he had no reaction to Jozu and was satisfied when he stopped his attack

It’s not like he actually tested anything about Whitebeard himself. Unless we want to be disingenuous and say that Jozu stopping the slash somehow made Mihawk think he “wasn’t worthy” of fighting Whitebeard and backed off lmfao

The only thing this thread established in my eyes is too glaze Kizaru. Cause the most logical explanation is Mihawk wanted to test how a old sickbeard was holding up and how much power he had still left, and his answer was this:

and kizarus this:

Classic self set up by temple bois. No one made this point just another selfgoal for the love of the game:sanmoji:

Exactly, they act like Marco's line doesnt exist and as if it doesnt apply to Mihawk despite Kizaru doing the same thing. :milaugh:
Indeed, every Scene from that Start of War was repeating the same idea,
If They didn't do that, every single Fan will start saying "Why didn't They just attack WB directly since He showed up so close"
And if only Admirals did it, Fans will still say, why didn't Mihawk or someone Legendary like Garp/Sengoku do it ... etc

As a Writer, if you want to Skip the Ship Battles & go directly to Land, you'd be forced to do that exact Scenario & then add those Scenes so People don't wonder why first half of War doesn't involve WB & focuses on smaller Fights,

Actually the real Hype is that WB made a Comment about every single Admiral (Such as oh it's so Bright or Akainu go work in Birthday Parties),
but with Mihawk, He was completely Silent, and it's not because He doesn't Respect him, We already know that from his Meeting with Shanks, He thinks so highly of Mihawk, He even made a Bad Comment about Garp & Sengoku

In existence?

:crazwhat:
This thread is not character assassination, its a character burial
Yes, in the whole existence.:myman:

Aye, like Nikker over here claiming that Mihawk wanted to see if Jozu was going to be a genuine obstacle to him reaching Whitebeard. :usoprice:
Indeed, Mihawk was testing if there really is nothing that can stop him from offing Whitebeard right there and then.
Turned out that "true distance" is bigger because there are other obstacles protecting the king despite being very close. :goyea:

I don’t think it even make sense for Mihawk to have meant what most people assume he did.

First off, does Mihawk think the Warlords collectively are inferior to WB, or does he see himself on a similar level to the rest of them? Neither interpretation is fitting at all.

Next, if Mihawk wants to test himself in comparison to WB, I don’t think sending 1 singular slash and then walking away does…literally anything.

He put less effort into pursuing Whitebeard than Gaban did pursuing Luffy

You and your goons are not a good one to judge relevancy and PL of characters

Background irrelevant character level.
