I am probably one of the few people here who is a fan of Mihawk, Shanks, Zoro and Luffy at the same time. You have seen me ranking them next to each other most of the time and I defend Luffy against some sword/Zoro fans downplay (though I admit I enjoy the trolling since the Luffy fans slander/downplay Zoro). I understand and enjoy the leech allegations against Mihawk and the rat allegations against Shanks. I even accept that compared to Shanks the feats and portrayal of Mihawk is much less and that Mihawks hype to some extent (not entirely) is built on his superiority to Shanks and not against other characters.
The weird thing though is that Oda has focused a lot on Shanks recently and not during the Yonko saga. And I dont understand some of the Shanks slander. If we go by comparing his resume I dont think we will get anyone else close to it, in no comparison does he comes out looking worse.
WB - Meets WB on the Moby Dick and splits the sky with
Kaido - Stops him from going to MF (Kaido placing him among his top 5 suggests that there was some sort of clash at least)
Akainu - Blocks his attack on Coby and challenges everyone in MF if they want to fight, even BB who was drunk on power at that time and calling himself strongest ducked even though he was ready to fight Garp/Sengoku just before
GB - No need to repeat what he did
Kid - Compared to how and what BB did to Law, Shanks outclasses everything
Barto - It was Yasopp who fucked them up, not even Shanks
Garling - His hype was champion of GV and now a Gorosei. Now he gets more hype due to being Shanks father
Shamrock - Shanks twin gets hype because of this bond even though he himself has an awakened mythical zoan as a sword
Loki - An unstoppable giant who was only ever captured by Shanks
JB - Shanks haki being directly compared to JB with both of them having similar application of haki (Sandman clarified that the giants were not actually saying that the haki is equal, rather that their was the possibility of JBs being stronger but the comparison still stands).
Mihawk - rivals with Mihawk being stronger but Mihawk is waiting for someone to surpass Shanks and then challenge him
I am just saying that all the downplayers should be very prepared when Oda decides to show Shanks go all out. The super focus with so many chars being linked to Shanks suggests that the time is nigh.
