Yeah my issue is from pure story telling perspective, this moment takes away the impact of Luffy and/or Zoro hurting Kaido.

Unless Akainu coats his magma with haki then he won't hurt Kaido.

If Oda gave Kaido and BM top tier haki, they will be gods, way Unbeatable.
