It's true though? Vergo was the only man Smoker "feared" the way he spoke of his strength he knew it was not going to end well for him. Smoker didn't even speak this highly of Crocodile back in Alabasta, nor Ace. Vergo puts the fear of god in people, probably cause he doesn't show any signs of feeling pain. He's the Terminator. Even that Dragon on Punk Hazard oddly ran from Vergo's presence when a weaker dragon had no issues challenging Luffy and Zoro in a 2v1.

I never really cared for Vergo, easily one of my least favorite of Doffy's top executives, only behind Trebol.

I mean he's fine. He had personality, a good relationship with Doffy, and his power level was good for the standards we were at during Punk Hazard.
But he's at most a B tier villain for me. Not interesting enough for me to still care about him a whole decade later.

Memes aside, this is another massive portrayal point for Vergo. Doffy knew damn well Law was a Warlord with a broken fruit at that, and he was confident Vergo could defeat him. This means in Doflamingo's eyes, Vergo is more than good enough for the Warlord position.

This should come as no surprise because Doflamingo was saving the Corazon seat for Law, Vergo like Rocinante was formerly a Corazon. That seat is special, no vet lvl scrub can touch that seat in Doffy's eyes.
