That's fair-ish.
I don't think Luffy fought Kizaru nearly as desperately as he did Kaido.
It wasn't life or death until Saturn showed up, at least.
But there's a middle ground between going all out and not.
Luffy promised to protect VP. He also knows Kizaru, was alarmed by his presence and was determined to beat him after Sabaody.
Even if he's not going to literally die trying to beat Kizaru, he was definitely going to give it a very good shot.
At the very least he had to pose a serious threat to force a very mobile and precise opponent to focus on him, especially since Kizaru initially wanted to get the job over with asap.
As for Kizaru, well, there's really no doubt at this point that he was reluctant at best and throwing at worst, so we can agree there.
Well technically there is Kizaru vs Snakeman....lol.
But honestly if your standard for victory is purely KOs regardless of duration then that's hard for me to argue against.
After all, Luffy did get the last blow in both fights, so he at least won R2 by that definition.
It just doesn't mean much to "win" a fight your enemy is actively throwing.
Especially since it's all but confirmed that Kizaru was up very quickly to feed Luffy, potentially making him the effective winner of R1 even if he got walloped.
I guess it depends on how long he was stunned for.
I was referring to Kizaru actually because he was conflicted and wavering.
Luffy was confident in himself and his crew's abilities, and was determined to win.
It's unlikely that he was mentally nerfed in or out of G5.

Attribute it to Luffy subconsciously feeling that Kizaru is not really out to get them or attribute it to Oda not wanting to off Kizaru just yet.

Luffy went from getting obliterated by Kaido, by Lucci, by Crocodil, by Doffy and so on to finally beating them.
A villain gets defeated when its their time and not before. Kizaru was ALWAYS safe in this encounter and so was Luffy.
So I honestly do not understand why people talk so much about irrelevant encounters.
It makes no difference.
