Ture, I am a touch harsh in regards to Jaime. But, he should have be "most dangerous when cornered". I think Jaime started losing his killer instinct as the story goes on. Compare his decimating Eddard Stark's men and then having Eddard on the ropes compared to his fight with Brienne. Granted, he had the element of surprise to some degree. Eddard was rather shocked but that can be due to him being lower than Jaime. The lack of ferocity Jaime exhibited in the fight with Brienne can't be just due to less than ideal condition. He has training. The survival instinct and the associated hormone rush can cover for a short period of time. And yes, Brienne is a rockstar-level swordswoman.
It's been a while since I read the books, but I think Jaime was always a bit broken after the whole Aerys thing.

His "killer instinct" and actions felt mainly like a result of the facade he crafted, and the truth he never told.

So after being exposed and captured he started questioning himself more and more becoming more of a wreck until he couldn't hide from himself any more.

Ofc I might be wrong, like I said it's been a few years since I read the books.

That's in the context of him believing Dayne to be a more chivalrous and accomplished knight than he was. In terms of pure martial prowess, Jaime doesn't believe himself to be below anyone else in terms of martial skill.
The realization chilled him. Robert had been stronger than him, to be sure. The White Bull Gerold Hightower as well, in his heyday, and Ser Arthur Dayne. Amongst the living, Greatjon Umber was stronger, Strongboar of Crakehall most likely, both Cleganes for a certainty. The Mountain’s strength was like nothing human. It did not matter. With speed and skill, Jaime could beat them all.
They were all in their graves now, the Sword of the Morning and the Smiling Knight, the White Bull and Prince Lewyn, Ser Oswell Whent with his black humor, earnest Jon Darry, Simon Toyne and his Kingswood Brotherhood, bluff old Sumner Crakehall. And me, that boy I was . . . when did he die, I wonder? When I donned the white cloak? When I opened Aerys’s throat? That boy had wanted to be Ser Arthur Dayne, but someplace along the way he had become the Smiling Knight instead

I just re-watched the Jaime-Eddard fight. Jaime was brutal, deadly, and efficient with every move. Maybe because Eddard was going to expose the Jaime-Cersei liaison that Jaime was such a whirlwind of death? Now that you mention it, I think you may have hit the nail on the head.

I the TV serie though.

In the books there was no fight and Eddard would have lost after ten seconds of there was any.

Brienne beat down Jaime. Granted, Jaime was is crappy condition. But, if Jaime was all that, he could have neg-diffed her in 3 seconds where stamina is not an issue.
This happened in the TV series too?

Tbh, Martin said that Barristan vs Arthur (without Dawn) would be a toss up.
This clown says one thing in books
says another thing in blogs
says even different thing in interview
and goes insane while making script for the TV shows.

If they ruin HoD , Daemon vs Aemon. Imma riot.

Jamie had to be nerfed lmao.
or else tyrion was always saying trial by combat and choose Jamie.

Wasn't ned trained under the same guy as Robert?
though I see him more as a War commander than Warrior.
Robert fought the war , Ned managed the entire war.
Possibly yes, I don't think It was ever addressed expliclty but they do shared their childhood.

However, in the books It was made clear that Eddard was "only" a decent/average swordsman. Not bad, but not good also.
Jaime however is an expectional genius. He was beating Brienne even after months of prison and still chained; Martin said Jaime Is one of Westeros best swordsman ever, meaning in the thousand of years of its hystory.

Robert on the other hand was a monster in his prime. Idk if on Jaimie's level, but near.

And I agree: It's as you said, Eddard was more the Commander type.
