We've seen quite a few characters where this doesn't really hold up.
Did Big Mom parents had it? Why only Katakuri had it among her children?
Does it skip generations? We know Ryuma is Zoro's ancestor. Did his parents have it? Pinzoro?
etc.

It's not like some "eye color" genetic.
Don't think about it too hard or scientifically. It's One Piece.

This isn´t different then real life genetics though. Just because your parents have something, doesn´t inherently mean you will.

We’ll get that explanation while Luffy learns it this arc. But as of now it’s mainly been used to negate changes in characters bloodline elements, including devil fruit powers.

The problem is that none of those things were portrayed as Haki at the time. We can now say that Shank used Haki against the sea king, but it doesn´t fit with how Haki is portrayed now. The Seaking isn´t feeling a physical force that could knock him out, he´s just scared

Haki also creates countless arguments/issues about pre TS characters like Lucci, Crocodile and other smaller things like Blackbeards vs Ace. It wouldn´t be an issue if previous characters didn´t use power of love, because unlike Haki it is coded as something that´s rare

unironically the most clear out of all of them.
Voice of all things was still a weird mix between coo and coa. Legit think Oda didnt know yet where he was going with it.

We don´t even know if Zolo has VOAT though. Iirc on Zou, only Luffy and Momo could hear Zunesha
