Although nothing will compare to my first ever experience with the OP fanbase in around 2006/7 when I said I liked SOME of the 4Kids dub voices at least and my DMs got spammed with replies telling me to kill myself and to die painfully lol. Such a nice, welcoming, loving, open-minded fanbase /s. (Back when the earliest days of Youtube actually had a messaging system and we could properly communicate with each other on there, RIP).

Ive seen some comments lately here that unironically sound like they came from the deepest cults themselves, r/onepiece, twitter and one piece youtube and I won't Shanks I meant rat out who those people were, but they tend to be hypocrites and bounce between criticising the series and Oda whilst also glazing him and attacking critics of both here too. Its nauseating and disingenious.
The worst though is always them saying "hurr durr why are you still reading the series then? Just drop it.", as its not like we've followed this series for decades and some of us really did LOVE it initially and still love what it used to be before its Icarian fall from grace and being consumed by its own hubris viciously.

Thats drove me insane about the fanbase. It made me EXTREMELY grateful to find Drizzt, here, TheAnimeSnob and Piratefolk as a result too. Felt like the only beacons of sanity in an entire asylum or cult as you said ofc. I've been calling the OP fandom a cult since WCI at least and it really fits, "Whole Cult Inside/Insitution" maybe?
