These recent chapters (1149-1151) are less about Oda setting up a cage match between Gaban and Rayleigh and more of him showing us that both of these men are firmly in the Yonko-level realm, not lurking around it, in it.
Yes, Rayleigh might fight Gaban 10 times and win 6, that doesn't demote Gaban from his tier. Both of these men are going either way with emperors in their prime.
It's sad that the main takeaway from all that went from Oda flexing the legacy of the Roger Pirates to show that they weren’t just riding Roger’s coat, to the cracked-out Zoro vs Sanji agenda.
Tbh, most people dont realize the implications of the Akainu Kuzan fight to this day. In Oda's mind, that is how these top tier fights go, probably after MF a lot of people started putting Akainu>>Kuzan based on feats, but he debunked this pretty hard. I was going to bring up the fact that people are doing this now with Warcury being a tier above the other Gorosei, but then I remembered people still have Akainu on a different tier from Kuzan, for whatever reason lol. Same with BM vs Kaido being three days. Oda usually doesn't make proper 1v1s for this reason,he likes having distractions/nerfs etc to finish it up quickly. Even Shiki, a random movie villain wasn't allowed to lose 1v1, he had Garp and Sengoku to wrap it up. So if you live in a universe like this, the difference between Rayleigh and Gaban is basically insignificant, both characters are monsters. But irl we could probably conclude, Rayleigh>Gaban based on portrayal

Zoro vs Sanji is the biggest debate in the history of agendapiece and maybe all of shonen. Shit is reaching Naruto vs Sasuke territories right now. Obviously it’s going to be talked about more because most fans don’t care about writing anymore. This story is so washed agenda is the only thing that matters for a good portion of the fanbase.
Now if you remove the agenda lens, most fans including Templebros can agree Gaban is a well written cool character so far
Lmao, Naruto vs Sasuke is wayyyy bigger. Casual fans don't even really care about Zolo vs Lanji and the only debate beyond the obvious power level difference is who loses their virginity first(spoiler, neither will). Tbh, the biggest thing for casual fans rn is probably the Kuma stuff.
Naruto vs Sasuke is way bigger because it was genuinely hard to tell who was stronger at times, there was contradictory statements going around, technically the villains they were fighting could go either way,and you even had bigger questions of like morality and if they'll really end up killing eachother(some mfs were deadset on the idea that Naruto would kill Sasuke lol)
