Lol you can suck on the Part 1 Portrayal, it doesn't help your argument when Kisame later is handpicked by Obito to join the Akatsuki, later told he's strong enough to be partnered with Itachi by Yamato (who's only reference is Kakuzu), who has Perfect Jinchuuriki levels of confirmed hype and fights solo against a perfect jinchuuriki when the Akatsuki are meant to take on incomplete Jin.'s with teams.
Hell, he even took on a semi-perfect 4 tails that could use TBB by himself.
Toshi please reread the manga before saying this shit lol, Kakuzu is literally two meters in front of Kakuzu with all his hearts at close range. Kakashi's Kamui is 100% hitting and taking out Kakuzu at this moment. Even if the first isn't, nothing prevents Kakashi from using a second to finish Kakuzu off.
Likewise if he were to just kamui away the attack, he'd have needed to act before it was used. He cannot Kamui away the big ballooning fire bomb, his skills with the mangkeyou sharingan are pretty subpar until the Pain Arc and we don't see him attempt anything this big until the Gedo Statue circa #595.
Something this large is impossible for Kakashi to take down and it's not like he can place Kamui right in front of the attack's path, it's going to expand in nearly all directions like the panel shows.

The attack is already on its way. Reason he didn't want to use Kamui is it leaves him a sitting duck, but there is no need to worry about being a sitting duck if Kakuzu is dealt with. This was a last resort for Kakashi to save himself from being killed.
There was zero guarantee Kamui could get rid of Kakuzu when he still had 3 hearts. Kamui is the worst possible move to use against Kakuzu and even Kakashi knew this, which is why it took him and his squad being on the verge of death to make him use it defensively.
Tbh the 3rd kazekage's hype is far from that good. The only source that names him that strong is the 3rd Databook, even when Sasori talks about him, he only refers to the 3rd in his own time alive.

This is the last frame we see of the jutsu, we don't know what stage it's in —the only visual indications are the dramatic shadings but that also exists on Kakuzu's panel—but we know 100% Kakashi cannot kamui that giant ballooned explosion, it's beyond his capabilities.
^^^ this is Kakashi the last major outing he had, his improvement hasn't gotten dramatically better if it's still a technique that puts him in the hospital with 1-2 uses.
If he uses kamui, he's not using it on the blast when it gets large.
If he's using kamui while it's either small enough to be sniped or before it combines, he's nailing Kakuzu with it as well. His head's in between the attack, it's gone with it.
And tbh Wind and Fire styles when mixed are almost instantly explosive too, the window for Kakashi to snipe the attack after its been used is very small. Kakashi's either very quick with his kamui here, when his mastery of it is so low it puts him in the hospital, or he's going before the attack is sent.
