Due to the "discussion" I had with @True God Moe , I decided to make this thread. Moe believes that WCI was one of the best overall arcs in One Piece



So what do you guys think? Is it one of the best arcs of One Piece? Like is it in the top 5 arcs of One Piece?

Some guys in our discord believe that Wano act 2 is worse but I actually think Whole Clown was worse.
This is partly biased though as Oda also killed Pedro my new favorite character in that arc. Aside from that, the plot conveniences turned Big Mom Pirates into Big Clown Pirates. Katakuri turned retard in the middle of the fight. And the fact that Oda kept dividing the Straw Hats, not a fan of that.

Katakuri turned retard in the middle of the fight. And the fact that Oda kept dividing the Straw Hats, not a fan of that.

WCI is a really really solid arc.

There was a really good thematic through line, and Oda maintained the emotional core of the arc really well.

Also, good shit characters like Katakuri were great, and only got better throughout the arc(and in a way that actually serviced the themes of the arc).

I'd put them as a lot of good concepts that were never properly explored, due to just how much was going on in the arc. There was potential, but this was always a pit-stop before Wano. Oda should've kept it at a smaller scale because we all knew the BM pirates were going to strut out of that encounter relatively fine. Half the SHs were missing and the alliance they assembled to take down another emperor was waiting for them.

They should not have been introduced then, Oda surely knew how long he plans to make the arc, and I think a lot more could have been done with trimming the Weeding Cake yelling to fewer chapters and adding something to cover or tie the loose ends.

You got Queen's bounty, Udon Prison itself being a pit of despair, Kyoshiro and added info on Ryuma, Yonkou alliances and Hawkins defeat. I think Act 2 / Udon was really well done.

Um, "plot convenience" has always been a thing, and I don't even see the problem with it in WCI, since the lucky are all massively set up as pay offs, organically, throughout the arc. So I have no clue what people are really talking about in terms of plot convenience in WCI.

Also, most arcs do divide the strawhats in one way or another, and I don't think the handling of the divide here was wanting.

Characters aren't logic machines. They have their own goals and ways of doing things. That comes through in Katakuri's decision to fight Luffy one on one.

I hear ya. I do. But for being a pit of despair I just cannot abide how little consequenses Luffy suffered while in there. I mean he was pretty much walking around like a peacock at one point. And the endless fodder Queen threw at him was less despair for me than just plain weird. Luffy was enjoying himself

Udon was bad (and so is Luffy vs Urashima, Holdem, Babanuki, etc) but so far Whole Clown still has worse moments

- Meme didn't even know Brook was exchanged during her sleep
- The night Sanji went out to witness Pudding shot Reiju's scene, 1 of BM's chess soldier just randomly slept in Sanji's bed, so the others didn't get suspicious that Sanji went outside. Like wtf?
- Fake bomb cellar for Sanji
- WEEEDDINNGGG CAKEEEEEE
- Disastrous fight of Luffy vs Katakuri
- Jinbe still left behind again for whatever reason

Yeah, pretty much.. I mean, at that point I really was starting to fall off one piece, and the later developments might have been cool. But the initial premise was just ruined it for me.

It was the "weak trio(didn't know Brook was apart of that)" and fucking Jinbei. For me, that was actually one of the better parts of the chase. All of the members of the crew got their time to shine, and although, they couldn't hope to win, they managed to stall an emperor like a bunch of badasses.

Well, its a bit hard to tell. Brook's just a bag of bones. Replacing him with a bag of bones would be just as effective.

Wasn't it clarified the chess soldier did that to make it appear that Sanji was there, so he wouldn't get in trouble?

The Luffy vs Katakuri fight was the good shit.

How is Jinbei being left behind a bad thing exactly considering the circumstances? Like, how is that "bad writing"?
You guys are saying "WCI had no consequences" when it had an absolute shit ton of them.
