zoro was by the best character in pre timeskip

he fell off post time skip but somehow the least annoying strawhat
im fine with him aura farming or telling the crew to shut up unlike luffy keeps acting like retard , sanji perv gags , nami who just act sexy the whole arc (oda gooning ), usopp being stupid coward, robin tf does she do ? , brook perv gags, chopper lol and franky is alright.

But yh
zoro went from best character pre timeskip to oda hiding him post timeskip
Jinbe the goat

From a writing/character standpoint what’s is the best era of Zoro? When did Oda’s Pen Peak with Zoro in your opinion?

there is two arcs where Zoros character really shined & that was in Skypiea where he accepted Robin into the crew which ever since Enel he has been the one to always protect and/or save Robin in all future arcs.

second would be Water 7 primarily for him being the voice in between the Luffy v Usopp aftermath and everything in between he tried to mitigate the tension and even stopped Luffy from saying what he was going to say in the first place. This is what catapulted and solidified him as First Mate and not just zoros no2 cause he joined the crew first.

Entire pre timeskip. Zoro was the 2nd best strawhat in pre timeskip (best was Sanji).

He was an actual character back then, while also having the most badass panels of the pre timeskip.

The "cut nothing" against Mr 1 was top tier writing. Zoro's vice captain moment in EL was great too, he was the only one who actively opposed taking back a deserter without outward admission of true remorse, and Sanji agreed!

Yet, "Nothing happened" was his best moment - it showed his transformation from "stand in the way of my dream and I'll kill you", to "my dream isn't worth it if it costs your life".
It is a great moment, but also completed his character arc halfway into the story. Which is unfortunate, because now Zoro is just.......there.......aura farming.

I see some readers like @HellBlazer04 demeaning "nothing happened". I even get it to a degree, I get why you think it sucks.
Yes, Zoro was ready to sacrifice his dream for his captain. Don't you think Luffy would do the same, for those he cares for the most? No need to answer, we have the answer with Ace and Sanji.
Zoro is still the indominable conqueror, like Luffy and Ace are. They just bend to love, not to fear or overwhelming power. Ace bended not to Whitebeard's overwhelming power, but to Whitebeard's fatherly love.

Pre skip Zoro was built different. He was special. With Zoro he always had that aura of invincibility in pre skip. In post skip due to more structured power scaling and bunch of characters being stronger than Zoro , to some extent he lost that aura of invincibility imo.
You think of him as less invincible now, even though he was actually getting his ass handed to him back in pre ts?

He wouldn't. He did it only for Ace, not Sanji or anyone else.
Ace was his brother so that's why Luffy did it, Luffy doesn't have a similar connect with the crew as he did with Ace. The sanji moment is completely different than ace.

Throughout the story, we've seen zoro constantly sacrificing only for Luffy's benefit. When it came life or death moments of Zoro, Luffy was nowhere to be seen to help him out. Luffy treats zoro like a slave dog and zoro behaves like one too because he still think he owes Luffy a debt for shells town.

If a scenario happens where Luffy has to choose his dream or saving Zoro, he's always gonna choose his dream

What is so wrong with what I said?

TB and the 'nothing happened' moment completely destroyed his character and made him the robotic oneliner merchant that we see currently in the story

you have zoro as your sig....

& Zoro states on several occasions when it comes down to his life vs protecting the crew that if he dies then he just wasn't strong enough.

his character was never destroyed in fact it was elevated and showcased camaraderie and loyalty for the crew, additionally Zoro knows that Luffys goals/dreams are bigger than his so if he cant protect Luffys then he has no right to achieve his.

if you want to cry about Zoro;s "character" then go back to when he lost to Mihawk & he realized he couldn't even achieve his own ambition if he couldn't protect his captain. he then publicly swore his loyalty to Luffy, promising he would never be defeated again.

after this came water 7 & Zoro's refusal of Usopp rejoining the crew. then lets cut to Wano where Zoro's growth reaches a new height. he comes to understand that to be the world's greatest swordsman, he must also be worthy of serving the Pirate King his promise to become the strongest swordsman and his promise to make Luffy the Pirate King become intertwined, making his personal goal a means to an end for Luffy's success.

For Zoro, protecting Luffy's dream is no longer a simple act of allegiance, but an issue of personal and crew honor. His determination to help Luffy achieve his goal has come to define his own journey, pushing him to become strong enough to defend his captain and ensure the Straw Hat's triumph.
