I think if Oda had written the CDs to be more subtle/under-the-table with their proclivities like the slave trade, you could've sort of justified the high-ranking Marines whitewashing the nastier parts of the World Government in order to keep the peace and civilians on their side. Instead CDs are literally parading around Sabaody Archipelago partaking in a literal slave auction house right across from the tourist attraction theme park. It's no wonder Cross Guild is so popular with civilians, these people have been itching for the opportunity to hunt down Marines for a big payday.

The amount of casual crimes-against-humanity the World Government has partaken in has easily outnumbered anything the pirates have done.

At the end of the day, Rocks was a man who died saving his family. WB probably respected that, even if he never saw himself as Rocks’s follower.

Sinking GV would be one final fuck you to the WG. It would prevent them from harvesting the island’s resources. It would also prevent them from desecrating the corpses of the Davy clan.

It was said Davy jones lives at the bottom of the sea. Hence I think it would be a poetic ending for WB to send off his captain and captains’ family that way. Sending them to the depths to be with their ancestors.
