There could have been a nameless Mook who went "Marco, can you save Ace?!", and then he goes "No good, his wounds are too intense".

You know, a little something.
I feel like it's fairly obvious though
I don't imagine he can just do that to people who aren't him, it'd be too broken and then Oda would also have to write an excuse as to why Marco didn't save Whitebeard or all of the fallen soldiers around him

I'll see if I can find it, but there was a thread at AP when Marineford was happening on why he couldn't save Ace, so I assure you it wasn't just me.

If we take this info seriously then Marco’s df gets knocked down a few pegs. It implies that strong haki can offer some sort of bypass, if strong enough then he might get knocked out before he can even activate his regen. We can also speculate that receiving haki-imbued attacks will wear down his stamina pool quicker.
So, marco's fruit is a flame based fruit that is perfect for someone with high defenses in high levels of defensive haki. Sanji.

I mean another factor is if Akainu used Haki on him since as we know it's harder for him to heal wounds dealt by Haki. Although to be fair I don't know if that only replies to his regen/intangibility being bypassed or anyone's regen/intangibility being bypassed. If that makes sense

This was definitely implied when Garp punched him and forced him back into base form immediately IIRC. It makes a lot of sense and how I expected he would always be countered, aside from seastone, seawater or yami yami ofc.
