While I don’t wanna defend the clown Moonman, this panel spread right here is frankly his last saving grace for now:

Otherwise, you gotta remember how Oda constantly shits on evil scum characters like him regardless of their strength just because they’re… evil.

You already went over this on your Kidd vs Shanks rant thread. The “goody two shoes” boys of this manga keep getting elevated while the bad boys get smacked for having “ugly hearts”

And current Garling did not change in that regard so…

Lolda is such a manchild

It’s actually wild how Oda fails to grasp that the bad guys actually need to seem threatening in order for good ultimately triumphing over evil to feel cathartic. Even a Kindergartener understands this
Ngl, this really started with the Rayleigh gas on sabody, where Oda had to the stupid ¨Oh the government knows where he is, but they leave him alone because they have to make preperations etc etc¨.(for some reason, they never do make preperations) Pre ts before that never really undermined villains in the same way, Lucci felt invincible, same with Croco and Enel

And then you get to MF/post TS and
Doffy is underminded in his own arc by fattora,
and Kaido is undermined in his own arc by Lolden
Garling gets low diffed...

That shit never made any sense. Even if Old Ray = 1 Admiral, just send in 2 Admirals and a fleet of Marines to easily secure the W. It’s not like Admirals are constantly battling Yonko crews, so they’re doing jack shit most of the time anyways, and Sabaody is also just an hour or so away from MF.

Ray knows the true history, so sure the Gorosei would be highly interested in having him taken out?

To be fair if they do that it's likely a powerful pirate would try and attack Marineford then

Lol, is one of the Yonko just gonna fast travel all the way from the NW to MF in the few hours it would take for 2 Admirals to pack up Rayleigh? I don’t see why one of the OG Yonko would even be interested in attacking MF anyways. Even if they did want to for some reason, there would still be the Fleet Admiral, another Admiral, Garp, and the rest of Marine HQ on standby

I don't know but I do recall something like that being the reason for why they don't do that.

Such a far cry from pre-timeskip. Oda wrote characters who were both over-the-top evil and extremely competent/dangerous.

Just look at Crocodile laughing about orchestrating Alabasta's civil war and gleefully talking about how hundreds of thousands of people could die. Or deliberately causing sandstorms to hit one town just so he could torment one old man.

A STORY IS ONLY GOOD AS AMAZINGLY WELL WRITTEN (strength and characterwise) his Antagonists/Villians are.

Exactly every amateur knows that, but he has insane lunatics follower. A cult

Well thats all that matters anyway since that is whats relevent to the present timeline. The flashback is to give context to his character, just like it is for dragon. Their strength level at the time doesnt matter.

Yeah this will happen, he needs the final villain of the celestial dragons to be scummy so the reader feels the satisfaction of his being defeated. Garling will do more scummy things in present day. Imu just doesnt fit being the final obstacle of the celestials, hes just a silhouetted robot and the fans like him too much. Oda knows people like imu

You´re reaching too hard. Who likes Imu? I´ve basically never seen it, except for people who think he´s cool for being top 1 or whatever.

You can really tell how much fun Oda had making Crocodile back in the day.

Man, even the art back then was really next level.

The marines even directly provoked an emperor(and more could have come, like GV) when they set Ace for execution, Rayleigh just has plot armor. At least Gaban lives off the grid a bit, so it´s more believable.
His "plot armour" is that he's so strong they leave him be, because he is a retired pirate who is not making any moves. The risk reward is not even worth it. They have to mobilize atleast an Admiral + a fleet, possibly two Admirals to minimize losses and guarantee a capture.

Capturing or killing a man that powerful on an inhabitated/ popular government affiliated island is extremely difficult to do, it's not like an Admiral can just go to Saboady and unleash his full power. And to tackle a man like this you have to be prepared to do so.

Putting so many resources and risking collateral damage into a retired drunkard ship coater Rayleigh capture doesn't make much sense. This is actually very believable and reflects real world decisions militaries make.
