Not every character needs to have an edgy teenager backstory that lasts for ages like Doflamingo, Kaido was introduced as an unstoppable berserker and I didn't expect depth more from him, but Oda gave him depth, he fought in wars even as a child, it makes complete sense why he values power above anything, yet he's also surprisingly honorable and in many cases very loyal.

Look at Lucci if you want a very simple brute force villain done well. Lucci is an exceptional character without being deep at all, Kaidou is like vomit in character form in comparison.
