As a writer Oda purpose is to show Imu as the big evil and portrayed it as the biggest enemy and perhaps also the strongest by FAR !!!

To showcase the strength and power.
He picks 6 of the most relevant strongest ppl that the story has produced in the meantime and attack Imu in a combine attack, and show that it did no damage.....to show how powerful Imu is.

Shiki, Ray and Gaban must have far stronger move than GV Kaido weakass bolo breath and perhaps GV BM too, and logically make more sense if they replace them.
But Oda stick to his formula and decides 3 future Yonko + Xebec + Garp + Roger attacking Imu together as it looks more epic and tells audience "Look 5 strongest pirate + strongest Marines can't do nothing to Imu"

Or it’s just “Look all these characters that you’ve been following for hundreds of chapters at this point are nothing to Imu”

Like straight up, it’s just like “I’ll put the supernova on the roof all together to fight the yonko.”

Trying to scale BM and Kaido as the strongest on GV is straight up ridiculous based on this

I guess WB only truly reached his prime after becoming a captain, even if the age gap between him and Roger/Garp was small (3 years for Roger and 4 for Garp)

That was due to the narrative of Roger and Garp fighting Xebec.

Power-wise, we already saw few chapters ago that Roger and Whitebeard were comparable and depending on the images, it's implied Whitebeard could clash equally with an amped Xebec that will need both Roger and Garp to fight.

So in terms of showings, even GV Whitebeard doesn't appear to be below them.

If Lulusia turns out to have been that important only in retrospect, then I'd wish Oda had never mentioned it in the first place. What's the point of making it BB's secondary homeland only after destroying it and without even showing BB's reaction to its destruction at the time? Not even a little cryptic panel to be seen as foreshadowing of this development.

You all overthink this. Garp is just stronger than WB, WB still come close. But he isn't exactly on the level of those 3.

Yeah the sole positive of liking "jobber" types is that they wouldn't get beaten so much if they weren't strong.

Problem is when the author overdoes it and makes the character look weak e.g Krillin, JLU Superman, Humungousaur, Galactus in a lot of Marvel comics etc

Admiral Scissors is a case of this too, we don't know how strong he was so Xebec killing him is the only thing we have to go by.
