I think the dumbest part of this sky split debate is that people think Xebec knocked Roger and Garp back with a haki force field.

You can literally see that he knocks them back with a swing of his blade. The haki lightning from Garp and Roger doesn't just disappear because it's a new panel. It's a fluid scene occurring in a matter of seconds but it's divided into panels and pages because it's a manga. Their haki is emanating from their clash and reverberates around the island.

It's not a solo sky split. It's a clash between 3 characters. Jfc.
No. If It was, as literally every clash, It would have been a stalemate and the skysplit would have happened as they touched.

Feel free to post different example of skysplit, if you have one.

This skysplit only happend after Xebec overpowered them with his attack alone. Just like Joy Boy's.

Xebec did become my favorite character but deep down I expected him to be actual crazy madman , that his crew would betray him for this reason.

Also Roger should have remained evil , legendary pirate King who achieved everything. Now he is older version of Luffy, a guy who made a lap around globe and became famous because of it. What was expected from Roger is given to Xebec.

Oda didn't deliver in the end sadly.

He looks "bad" because Garp was Roger's equal when we thought WB was the only one. In fact, you can now argue Garp is more of a Roger equal than even WB. We were basically lied to by the narrator and Buggy (as we saw with Garling, this is not even an exception at this point though).

Obviously ignoring the fact that those two weren't lackeys and actually finished off WB's captain. While WB is busy playing tsundere underling to Polo Gram.

This is how WB got introduced btw

this flashback was a fall from grace. The expectations for WB are simply higher. Garp is what we thought WB would be when we read MF. That's the issue. Garp legitimately seems more of an equal rival to Roger than WB.
We were told for years that Garp was Him for the marines back in the day .
So this just show something that was said by many people for decades now .

It's all one scene occurring in a matter of seconds but divided into panels because it's a manga and not a movie.

Garp and Roger's haki don't just disappear from one panel to the next. We can see the haki emanating from the focal point of the clash a panel before they get overpowered. It reverberated around the island.

It's kind of sad, really. The first proper glimpse we get of Roger without his face shadowed is in another man's flashback (Oden's) and over half of it is just everyone dickriding Oden, Roger included. Oda even retconned things so that Oden ends up being his poneglyph translator and chiseler.

Then when we finally get one of Roger's biggest battle flashbacks, all the personality traits fans expected from him are instead handed over to Xebec.

Oda's constant need to hype up his new characters always seems to come at the cost of the old favorites, who get downgraded or used as props to make the newcomers look better.

You can't win
At the end of the day we were lied to.

WB is not Roger's only equal. He had multiple, atleast with Xebec we can cope and say he was erased from history.

Harald probably didn't even exist as a character back then so while it's complete bs It's somewhat more acceptable than Garp. We were mislead about Garp, probably cause he was a marine and not an actual pirate rival. Garp was the one.
Well there is a reason Roger is now known as Roger of the 100 equals

It's just W7 to EL all over again. We should've saw it coming.
That always happen like Enel do certain level attacks which took down people longer than stronger attacks later .
It when it look like bolo was a stronger attack when it destroy a mountain top and then it became spam move luffy was just tanking all the time.

The only one who can beat me is me

If you thought Garp was Roger's equal after seeing this

Seeing this

And then this

I applaud you for seeing through Oda's pirate propaganda. It took me a lot longer to start seeing all of the above was just hyperbole bs. I just thought Garp lacked that portrayal and there was a little separation there. But was completely wrong. Heck you can even give Garp the edge over Roger now, and you wouldn't even necessarily be wrong.

Roger was never portray as evil WTF .
In fact the first few chapter with shanks give you idea of how roger would be .

Loger's Infinite this, Larp's Ace that... Can the uber-hyped DR Webec really take something of THIS caliber though?

That's the million dollar question for today, lads and lasses.

As I said, every skysplit has been:

1) immediate;
2) a stalemate.

If we ignore this, we can bascially say whatever.

This instead wasn't immediate and wasn't a stalemate either.
It was akin to what Joy Boy did with his "attack".
