Chapter Discussion FINAL VEREDICT on God Valley Incident

What would Oda have had to do for you to rate it any lower than 5 stars?
It depends. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ = Simply do something that I expect yet interesting ⭐⭐⭐ No surprise or disagreement with Oda on the message but still cool and fun ⭐⭐ = No excitement and disliking the experience > never happened for me with OP ⭐ = I'd have to think that what Oda is doing is wrong and awful in almost totality. I don't see that happen anytime soon.

Sorry to have fun

The catalyst that started it was pretty meh, I wish it was something more significant than just another damsel in distress situation, like Rocks swallowing his pride and asking the Roger pirates to help him save his family would of been a much better dynamic,

I enjoyed Garp and how despite learning the truth he's staying to protect the little guy imo its between him and rocks for God Valley MVP

It had its up n downs but overall ut was good, solid 7/10

Can you give examples of 4 star, 3 star, 2 star, and 1 star segments/moments of the story?

It is a standard postskip flashback in that it elaborates on things we already knew, and confirms things that millions of people instantly theorized(BB connected to Xebec, Dragon a former Marine etc). It doesnt do anything crazy.

The best it does is build anticipation for Loki's DF since there were 2 fruits that Xebec was seeking and Loki has one of them. It also builds anticipation to finding out Imu's weakness.

I liked the stuff we got with Dragon, Garp, Roger and Xebec of course, but there's a big downside to it as we don't see the other characters do ANYTHING.
Not to mention the HKs, who are the CURRENT VILLAINS each get one shot and thrown out of the picture for 98% of this flashback.
Did Oda seriously not know what to do with them? Was it hard to do something like Whitebeard vs Garling or Ray vs Garling, for example?
And he makes it clear that Gaban and Sommers know eachother but they never interacted once in God Valley..
Also, and this is the worst part of it all, he makes it so Xebec just so happens to barely survive Garp and Roger's final attack because he wants Garling to get some hype by killing Xebec off for good.
Why not, I don't know, make it so Garling fought an actually healthy and strong opponent like Whitebeard, then??
It's not even outlandish for me to want Garling to be strong since, one, Oda tells us he's strong in a SBS, and two, he's the father of the third strongest Emperor so far (a little below Kaido and Primebeard).

GV was trash from the get go that useless fan service whore Shakky got introduced. I knew it'd be ass since then.

Worst part was Whitebeard's character assassination

Garling being pure evil makes him the best part of GV. Was hella disappointing powerscaling wise but a pure evil man who doesn't stop at his own family and has no honour/pride? Yeah finally. Tired of these sob stories ahh villains.

The worst part of GV(if it doesn't get addressed), is everyone being blind and thinking Xebec straight up betrayed them. Even WB was disappointed at Xebec and left him to die. They literally watched Xebec get stabbed, grow 3 times in size, grow horns, wings, and fangs, and immediately start obeying Imu's commands.

It makes everyone look like idiots, and WB look especially bad since the proud family man didnt even bother to question Xebec and dipped without a problem. Left all his brothers and sisters to do his own thing without reaching out. Really hope Oda fixes this.

Given koidos and big moms characterzation i doubt it gets adressed

As a fellow yonkek WB gets the IQ malus, seems like a certified oda moment. remember that garp is around 40 in gv and in the marines his whole life and he was going like "wait sengoku the marines are....le bad???"

Actually, yeah, this is very weird considering that Whitebeard got stabbed in the chest by Squard (who wasn't even turned into a demon by anyone, he was just gullible) and still went out of his way to forgive him and let him go, yet he gets hit by a suspiciously demonic looking Xebec once and suddenly all bets are off??

Oh my god I somehow forgot Shakky too despite her being one of the worst parts of the flashback. We all know Oda is a huge misogynist but he was especially shameful with her

Still one of the best pieces of content Oda has delivered in years. But Retardbeard dipping out was genuinely weak writing. Rocks’ death was completely avoidable. Ray and Gaban showing up too late was lazy too, since they easily could have saved him. I guess the implication is that they arrived just in time to see him get killed or to find his “lifeless body” (burned scar man is Rocks!).

Wings of the Pirate King introduced to be glorified taxi merchants. Apparently standing shoulder to shoulder means that all you're good for is travelling.
These guys are useless, the Wings narrative is cooked if this is what it represents 😂
