"If only I had helped my friend who was against the current slave-owning status quo... I SHALL BECOME THY SLAVE, IMU-DONO!"

Either peak mental crash out characterization by Oda or Top 3 garbage moments in One Piece
In some way, it does make sense.
It was a shit path for Oda to take Harald down on, but having decided on it, there are ways to make it "logical"-ish.

If only Harald + Xebec + those 2 specific DFs can make a difference against IMU, and with Xebec dead, Harald can't think of anyone else strong enough to replace him, then kneeling to IMU is the smartest choice, especially if he cares about his (dumb) people.

Plus, Harald seems to be wanting to atone for the giants' own historical crimes. He might've found out a repeating pattern: maybe in Nika times, the giants were the enslavers & genocide-perpetrators helped by their unmatched sizes.

Still, imo, the best course would've been to have Xebec and Harald execute their Perfect Plan together, keeping some elements of it in the dark for us readers, and have IMU beat them with some underhanded tactic besides DRing their allies.

But ya can't expect strategy from OP, so that's that.

I think this number takes into account the countries affiliated with the WG
Alabasta had either one or three million soldiers iirc
But yeah a million+ marine soldiers sounds about right, since the elite marines in MF numbered 100k

The goal is ok but the path (or rather the pace of it) were unsatisfying to me.
I get Harald wanting the best for his people even at his own expense. But willing to be a slave (and uttering those words as the KING in front of Navy HQ) is not naive but straight up mentally challenged.

It's Otohime's philosophy: don't hate the hater, but embrace him. Love as a response to violence.
It's a very romantic notion, with little traction IRL.
We'll see how IMU reacts to the offer next chapter. I think we might be in for a (good) surprise from the imp.

Xebec's death without smiling and indeed tragic, he was a good character and will be missed.

Seems like Xebec was killed right before Rayleigh and Gaban arrive at the scene. This also could be the time where Gaban clashes with Sommers, possibly Rayleigh and Gaban vs Maffey, Garling, and Sommers. After they have beaten the God's Knights, they bring Roger and Garp back to ships.

What is the island build on? sand?

Roger pirates are the biggest winners, they got the treasures, the girls, and a baby.

Wonder why Xebec's dream is different than Teach's who supposed to have inherited DDJ's will, I'm curious to find out what DDJ's actually wanted and his deal/relationship with Imu.

There is no doubt Loki will revive the Galleila crew.

It's sad to see this fool Harald decides to become Imu's pawn willingly while Xebec tried his hardest to fight against that.

Davy Jones was the King of the World, which IMU usurped.

Xebec wanted to restore a Davy on the throne, and return the world to its natural state.

Teach wants the world to pay for what they've done. Teach wants the throne for himself, and for everything else to fall into chaos and experience all the suffering he and his people were put through.

I think there's quite a few degrees of separation between Otohime and Harald in their views. Iirc Otohime never submitted the idea that Fishmen would willingly become slaves if it meant a place under the WG banner.
But Harald doesn't want his people to be enslaved.
For the giants' safety, Harald is giving himself up as a slave. He is making the ultimate sacrifice for Elbaf.
Just like how Otohime tried to convince fishmen not to hate the CDs at the cost of her life, so Harald is a martyr in order to break the cycle.

He is their king though and their strongest soldier. If he sets this precedent of "I'll be a slave just to be accepted" he opens the doors for Elbaf to be enslaved once if/when he does become a slave.

I understand the idea behind it, but the thing is the giants have the strength to defend themselves, fishmen don't diplomacy is the only way for fishmen to survive, Harald wants to bring giants into a more modern time where they are no longer the war mongers they once wore, but we saw ij the beginning of the flashback other nations were willing to help elbaf and offered aid to them, he doesn't need to join the wg to show the giants have changed he can do that through actions and having meetings with the other nations
what if the wg bans them from trading with elbaf or use their propaganda to make them look bad
