Personally think that Oden was Kaido's antagonistic rival more than Big Mom, who just seems like a low budget Kaido written for Kidd/Law to defeat.

That's not fair to the time Oda put into the Big Mom and Kaidou dynamic. It's not like Garp and Sengoku, or really any of those duos you mentioned are antagonistic rivals anyway.

I know it's hard to accept because Big Mom is a bum, but that just goes to show you relativity doesn't mean actual equality. Garp and Sengoku could be the same case as Kaidou and Big Mom.

Oda doesn't give af about age headcanons. If he wants to consider a 40 year old a rookie, he will. It makes no sense by real world standards, but this is a fictional story. It's not the real world.

Also, idk if Oda is even really aware of how old Roger and Garp are supposed to be at GV.

Sengoku is also in his late 30’s during GV, but Oda draws him like he just got out of Marine boot camp

(1) amped DR Xebec = just Yonko level
(2) GV Roger/Garp ~ Kidd/Law duo.

Id rather just believe into DR Xebec being a bit above "Yonko level" & Roger/Garp being in their primes at the time. Newgate could've been a bit behind at the time though.

@ZenZu Isn’t the fact that all Admirals are above 40 when they get their rank proof that Oda thinks characters should peak in their 40s? You could argue that the C3 were only that old when they got their rank because they had to climb up the Marine hierarchy, but that excuse wouldn’t work for Fuji and Ryo, who both got drafted straight into the Admiral rank.

Also, it doesn’t matter that Aramaki is only barely above 40, all that really matters is that the second digit is 4 or 5.

Lolda’s just weird about top tiers reaching their primes so late because he’s a man in his mid 50’s who’s coping and trying to convince himself that he’s not that old yet

I agree. This is why he had Roger at 39 and Garp in the same bracket it's the perfect age for being at the beginning of your prime. Shanks entered his prime even earlier than that, as did Mihawk probably.

So yea it's obvious Oda intended on Garp and Roger to be in their primes, being in your prime doesn't mean it's your absolutely strongest year. It just means over your career there is a point where you were at your best relative to the rest of the years, and your peak is somewhere in those prime years. Usually the middle.

The second one is a more charged up attack in comparison to the first which is just them hastily attacking each other to stop each other as quick as possible

Instead, he had them use all of their haki reserves, meaning they had to surpass the limit of what they were capable of. Neither of them got any new techniques, just used all of their power in one blow. I don't think Oda would write it that way if they weren't even in their primes yet.

No no don't you understand? Characters need to go absolutely all out in every clash to prove that they are at their strongest. Minor clashes mean they must be weaker. Mihawk = Vista btw. ^_^

Big Mom's final technique looks cute compared to Kaido's.
Thats not how Garp/Sengoku or Roger/Whitebeard dynamic looks, atleast in my mind.

I’m saying that I think he just simply didn’t care about their actual ages. He wanted them to still be in their “youth” despite their canon ages

Portrayal establishes what level a character is on, and feats establish the rankings within a level

Well it's not just about Luffy not being able to be killed. Akainu didn't kill him, neither did Kizaru. But they also didn't quit because they failed to stop Luffy. Also Bumgoku twerked everytime WB moved a muscle.
