The clashes aren't necessarily direct. It's just they're competing with each other over territories. Some of them never met the others. As a matter of fact, Big Mom never fought Kaido, but if you're going by that statement, they should've clashed.

Oda just intended to showcase that the top members of Rocks pirates were dominating the seas, each of them have conquered parts of the New world. This is all canonically accurate.
And shows the Roger pirates were the one who manage to surpassed all of them by finding the one piece treasure.

Big mom and Kaido haters were just hoping both of them to be fraud who hides and rise to top only after WB gets old and Roger crew disbanded etc.
They were roaming on same portion of the seas with Prime WB and Roger around.
Nuff said.
Roger has no issues killing Squard entire crew but had to sneak Big mom to get Poneglyph.
