I fully believe at this point, now that we know from Imu/Rocks that Curses are real in this series, that:
1. Love Sickness is partially a curse caused by Imu. Evil incel Demon obsessed with an island full of women who hate men, named after the chick who he can't get over from the Void Century? Yeah, Imu cursed Amazon Lily
2. All the maternal death in One Piece is also Curse based. Same way Lily died to protect Harry from Voldemort's Curse. The Mom's are absorbing the Curse meant to kill their children, the Ds.

I think at the end of the Void Century, the war was so bad, both sides wanted to stop after 100 years.
Joy Boy invited Nerona Imu, representative of the 20 Nations, to Marijoa, the land built to welcome all Tribes as equals (which is why Super Giants like Harald can easily fit in the doors/halls of Marijoa. Why would Giants be able to fit there, if Castle Pangea had been built by racists like the CDs?).
Joy Boy wished to end the war with peace talks... and Imu used this opportunity, to activate the Abyss, and raid the Castle with Demons/troops.
We know from Elbaph that Demon Summoning is real. Imu's Demon powers don't come from a Fruit: Imu is possessed by an actual Demon Lord.
Then, using the Ope Ope no Mi, Imu switched places with Joy Boy.
Joy Boy, now as Imu, tries to warn everyone, but is blamed/not trusted.
In Joy Boy's Body, Imu declares that Nerona Imu/the 20 Kingdoms have betrayed the Ancient Kingdom, attacked Castle Pangea, slaughtered many, and tried to kill him, as well.
Imu Joy Boy uses the Ancient Weapons to cause the World Flooding, and the Abyss to save those loyal to him by taking those 20 families, and their slaves, and transporting them on top of the Red Line to Marijoa.
Real Joy Boy in Imu's body dies tragically, and the rest is history.
Imu literally took over the Ancient Kingdom, by stealing Joy Boy's body.
