I think it’s fair to be understanding in regard to the Palestinians. While they do have a lot of animosity towards Jews, it’s not really the same as traditional antisemitism. In that these folks actually have been victimized by people who are Jewish. As opposed to hating Jews due to asinine conspiracies and scapegoating.
It's not about empathy in this case, it's about understanding the context and understanding why it's not ok, in any circoumstance to essentialize ethnicities. There are comrades and leftist who are fighting in all sides and this hatred that you see is exactly what our country want you to see. Essentialization in this case ends the agency of the population. Do not go there. It's too dangerous.
Imperialism and neocolonialism are not conspiracies, they are real destruction that are facing all people in these regions and Israel is at the center. While the antisemitism of this region is real and must be fought, it's a consequences of a context of oppression regarding Israel's behavior in the region and not a cultural trait. As such, we must not essentialize population, no matter if they are jews or Mena.
While there were some pull factors in that migration, a big reason they left the Muslim world was antisemitism.
Unlikely, the reason was most likely zionism and a consequence of the imperialism of the west through Israel. Not antisemitism.
I generally agree that Israel does not help quell antisemitism, but that area has been generally anti semitic well before that.
The region had anti-jewish hostility, mostly religious and cultural forms of discrimination, but the antisemitism as we know as a racial form of oppression was influenced by European colonialism and the development of racism. As such, while discrimination existed like many confessions, colonialism created the main problem of antisemitism.
This is why I'm telling you, do not essentialize and instead look at the REAL systems of domination that feed these behaviors:
- Imperialism
- Neo-colonialism
Fighting antisemitic behaviors (
in these regions specifically) without tackling the reason people fall into this hatred is like putting a patch on a sinking boat attacked by a warship.
so did colonialism, Zionism and imperialism cause vivid jew-hatred in islam in the 7th century
You are confusing antisemitism with discrimination, mate.
You need to understand that racism (which is antisemitism) is a form of RACIAL domination BEYOND simple discrimination. It's exploitative and supremacist.
Hence, it's important to make the distinction and understand why racism, when it appears, was a
COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BEAST than the discrimination lived by people of diverse confessions all over the world before it.
