A sniper that uses abnormal bullets. A hammer that can move on its own and likely return to him sounds like the perfect close range weapon that can be used perfectly in long range combat.

I tend to always measure Usopp as to what he may bring vs Van Augr. Not sure its the right mindset but I would believe that how hax he is Long Range, the only way to defeat him is close range.
I mean, Pre TS Augr sniped Seagulls above the Merry from an island so far that the island wasnt even visible on the horizon.

If its a hammer returning to him, then its about getting Van Augr between Usopp himself and the Hammer. So when it returns to Usopp, Augr is in the way.
