I mean, there's a non-zero possibility that he already has. Mariejois is on fire, after all. And who has a famously fire-adjacent Fruit?
Most people assume Mariejois is on fire due to the Revolutionaries or Blackbeard making their move. But, there's a non-zero chance that Akainu just had enough and started turning on the World Government. Fans have been speculating that the Marines could rebel against the WG, eventually. It's possible that already happened off-screen.
...I wouldn't put money on that. Akainu seems to loyal, to me. But, it's not impossible.
But, either way, Akainu and the Marines are probably involved in whatever's going on with Mariejois. Whether it's defending it against attackers, or being the attackers, themselves. Akainu's probably doing something right now.
Whether we actually get to see it, or whether it'll just be a flashback we get while reading the newspaper Post-Elbaph is another story. Because it is pretty likely that we'll only get to see the aftermath of whatever's going on. Which is kind of a shame.
So...yean, we'll probably get to see Akainu for a bit, one way or another, once Elbaph is over. I don't think it's too likely for him to show up before that.
