In this manga people don't die even when nukes explode. You imagine the rest.
One Piece is weird. You have your Pells and no one dying from Enel or CP9, but then you have Ace and Whitebeard, Vergo and Monet, Pedro and presumably Peckoms, Asura and Izo, possibly Big Mom and Kaido, and finally Saturn outside of flashbacks.

I actually dont get his decision making on stakes because he can be surprisingly brutal when he wants to be but its obviously rare.

Egghead was problematic because it was an escape arc.
What’s the difference? I have no problem with people critiquing OP I mean I do it myself all the time

But certain things like this always confuse me because it feels like the logic changes

The community wants to have its cake and eat it too. They want tension and stakes but if the Strawhats are the underdogs or simply don’t have the upper hand then they complain (“fake Yonko crew”, Mickey Hats, etc)

But if they do have the upper hand then it’s also a problem because the villains are no longer threatening. So which one is it

Idk on one hand I hear this but I can’t help but remember how many people complained about Egghead for being nothing like current Elbaf

Actually… people complained about early Elbaf for the same reasons. If the Strawhats are on the backfoot then their development feels unearned and according to some people they don’t feel like a Yonko crew

But if they’re capable of taking on the threats then apparently the villains are no longer threatening and there are no stakes

So where’s the line?
That's the fun part, there is no line here. No one's ever happy because they want both sides to perfectly equal in "feats" and hate when someone has to lose.

Xebec couldnt free himself from it and was begging Roger and Garp to kill him, but Worry and Wroggy just kind of did lol.

Then there is the fact that we must ask ourselves what exactly consitutes ''Killing someone'' when your enemy can regen and like the chapter or two prior Dorry and Broggy cleaved each other in half but apparently that didnt count.
But what about Xebec's family that he killed? Shouldn't they have turned back to normal after he "killed" them?

I think the biggest issue is that oda wrote the story in a way where tension only exists when he makes the stronger straw hats disappear from the arc. It makes things tense, but it’s hard to ignore the thought “once the others show up everything will be fine.”
That’s almost always been the case though, no? Thats why Oda uses the formula of splitting the Strawhats up so often

It’s been like that since the beginning of OP damn near. They’re almost never on an island the whole time together

Hell, the main plot of Water 7 straight up doesn’t happen if any of the stronger Strawhats went out with Usopp

Also, I bet if every Straw Hat was captured and held at August Castle while Sommers and Killingham molest Ripley and/or eat the librarian owl, people like Monster Zoro and Fujishiro would be complaining the supposed Emperor crew are a total joke or something.

Just chill and let chill

Egghead was kinda fun in the beginning with VP reveal and stuff
But it started slipping into shit with betrayal plot and then with ALL 5 gorosei appearing BUT doing nothing to SHP

The only cool thing about Egghead was Kizaru moral dilemma, I grew to appreciate his character more, as he appeared to be more interesting after that arc.

I will never forgive Oda

I think it’s Oda working with hindsight. Like here, he probably realized Domi Reversi wouldn’t work with his later plans if it’s this Op.

Some people will never be satisfied, yeah. If someone loses they got “embarrassed”

If the Strawhats are on top then the story itself is Mickey

If the Strawhats are the underdogs then it’s also a problem because they’re a Yonko crew now and Yonko crews shouldn’t struggle

Pick a battle
