Egghead and Elbaph have been solid arcs. So no, it hasn’t ruined the story. I would probably still have preferred if Oda stuck with the original concept of Luffy turning a mid fruit into something formidable, but it is what it is. I don’t think this new concept is inherently bad writing. I will grant that it’s genuinely bad that he only name dropped Nika 20 chapters before the actual reveal.

Pre-TS established Luffy is the descendant of the world’s most dangerous man and Roger’s longtime rival, and possesses the Will of D.

Whether we like it or not, Oda never intended to write Luffy as some average Joe Shmoe going from 0 to 100.
Oda owes me 16 years back.

I don't think it ruined One Piece, but it ruined a great portion of Luffy's character, so it affects One Piece as a whole unevitably..

Everything Luffy does now is either too ridiculously goofy or he is being treated as some chosen one guy, and even if he was a chosen one prior to Gear 5, the fact that this is yelled at our faces everywhere ever since Wano is pretty boring and predictable.

How can we fell any tension when even while Vegapunk was at death's door Luffy was laughing his ass off..

Im sorry but this is trash, Oda himself knows this when he admitted he does stuff for the sake of "subverting expectations", even if most of his audience thinks it is not good

Kaido should’ve become a Lava Golem

I think Oda should’ve just continued building upon what he had With Snakeman honestly. A lot of potential with that form

For serious enthusiastic reader and who want better fights and intense battle, ye G5 is bad, very bad.

But one piece community in general sense? Especially on business standpoint.
Nah it's the opposite of ruined.
G5 even make it more famous and the popularity (especially Luffy) skyrocketed.
Business and marketing had gained lot of profits from it.
Gaming industries, figures, poster etc had gained big fat money because of G5..

Thousands hate but millions love
Hate it or not, it is what is....

The way I see it, a common problem people have with Luffy's Gear 5 form is rooted in a cultural mismatch. This story has many eastern traditional views in it, and one of those views is called Mushin.

What is Mushin?
Mushin (無心) is a Japanese term translating to "no mind" or "empty mind," representing a Zen Buddhist mental state often used in martial arts. It describes being fully in the present, acting on pure instinct without fear, hesitation, ego, or conscious thought, similar to being "in the zone" or experiencing a flow state.

Gear 5 might seem like it makes Luffy obnoxious and indifferent to others, but I think it's just him being in a special state that explains it.

So this excuses him laughing a few feet away from Vegapunk's corpse?

Yeah, but there´s a big difference between Luffy being special, to being the most special pirate in the series by far. Oda really did not need to be excessive in this, and Luffy using a paramecia to reach greater heights was much more interesting.

Things get especially problematic, imo, if the reason the Roger pirates were too early is because they need the Nika fruit for the OP. That means the entire race for the OP, was objectively just rigged for Luffy.

Actually it was because Shirahoshi wasn't born yet, although the Nika fruit could be a factor in it.
