One Piece is my favorite manga and probably the best I’ve ever read but at the same time I don’t think it’s possible for any manga to become legendary
One Piece isn't just the most successful serialisation of its era. It's a historic body of work.

By its deeply emotional nature, generations will be passing the story down. Parent to child, sibling to sibling, one generation to the next.

You just can't see it yet because the story isn't over. We don't yet live in a world where One Piece is a completed work that can be handed off.

One Piece is my favorite manga and probably the best I’ve ever read but at the same time I don’t think it’s possible for any manga to become legendary

First off, is there any world renowned Japanese literature to begin with? On the same level or close to Shakespeare I mean?

They have world class directors (you hear Kurosawa’s name fairly often even in the US) but when it comes to literature people usually turn to Europe and China

I don’t think manga will ever be able to stand in the same ring as far as that goes. I think I can acknowledge that from a historical point of view OP may be brought up because of sales figures

But I have a hard time believing it’ll make a mark writing wise. Will any manga?
There won't be another manga like oda because most manga writers prefer short series than long seires. Making to 300 chapters is tough job let alone 500, then 1000. One say Oda hit luck to win on right moment.

Beside who is going willing to draw 1000 chapters Luke oda nowadays?

You can hate one piece but you can't deny success in Japan and other nations. Even 4kids introduced one piece to west due pirate theme which it famous in media. Kids read about pirates books at libraries.

DBZ was cool, especially the Frieza arc. But then for me it fell off. I will try once to watch DBS(idk right now when)...because I wasn't satisfied with the Cell and Majin Boo arcs.
DBZ to me is one of those 'turn off your brain and just have fun' manga/form of media. Like the majority of comic book movies. You put it on when you wanna have some fun and relax.

But DBZ is legendary because it went above and beyond a simple manga.

Goku is inspiring people even today to hit the gym.

Well depends how we define legendary. Writing wise? Transcending the medium? DBZ for instance, while being an average manga or below average even, transcends the medium its in.

World renowned? Hardly. They do have some influential ones, prolly the most famous one recently would be Haruki Murakami.

It's a good question. Maybe OP will be brought up due to sales figures alone, but that shouldn't indicate quality.

Will any manga be put on a pedestal like that? It'd say no.

Is there manga out there that could be close to it? Maybe not Shakespeare etc, but I'd wager stuff like Monster and Berserk could have a shot.
I think the problem with manga is people (outside of the community) usually approach it from an artistic angle

Like Jojo’s didn’t make history because of the quality of its writing but Araki’s art. Inoue is a legendary mangaka with even some non-anime fans praising his art rather than his writing (even if his writing is phenomenal)

I’d say that’s both a boon and a flaw of manga being a visual medium

I think in the history books One Piece will likely have a spot similar to like Harry Potter. Where neither of them are praised for having never before seen levels of writing but they broke a lot of sales figures so it feels right to talk about

I had a professor in a media class that mentioned One Piece because he was going over the best sellers in each “category” (and this one was Japanese comic)

I think One Piece will fall under something like that
