Dead serious, there is nothing connecting them, Zoro fans are just pushing for it because they want Mihawk to be more relevant.

They don’t have the same eyes. Mihawk’s eyes are yellow while Imu’s are red.

The sword thing is also meaningless as well. Imu can use flames that heal people, is he Marco’s dad? He can bring objects to life too, is he Big Mom’s grandfather?

Mihawk is truly only relevant as a benchmark for Zoro. It’s why he was completely left out of God Valley and the Harald/Loki flashback. He’s certainly strong, probably even stronger than Shanks, but his backstory is the type of shit Oda reveals in an SBS. “He was betrayed by the marines and he hunted them”.

it's a fairly easy anime/manga to pretend to be a fan of since the fandom usually just repeats the same talking points and the same jokes (i.e zoro getting lost or buggy being super strong), and since it's so damn long and honestly somewhat repetitive it's not something that really incentivizes the average reader/watcher to get through all of the chapters/episodes
