I’m sweating from everywhere so hard because of the impossible heat of the current weather that I might as well have dropped some tears. Better flashback than Goofy, Ace and Sabo. This is really good and I’d rather have this than : push the birdcage and run to the rooftop.

That said : The problem is the relationship with Gunko. I thought Oda had learned after Momonosuke with Nami and Robin but he chose to keep this cringe ass Lolita stuff with this flashback. After all we had Bonney in the meantime too…

Japan is finito. One Piece should be rewritten with a team of editors who understand life better.

Lmao the votes. This forum is cooked.

Yeah it's a problem, this line he play with I don't like. I know why he does it, it's less about a pervert thing and more about trying to appeal to a form of maximization of romance (not in the love, but "romance dawn" sense, the exageration of the romantic aspects of adventure), thus he will play with big and old thematics and social "idealizations". But sometimes he will do it for kids or girls like the fact of "loving" their father figure (shuri) or for a kid to "mature" when they are actually 8 (Momo) to lead a country or kid "throwing themselves into their own potential future" (like Bonney, who actually is depicted as a mature woman when she is 28 and a child when she reverts back or face Kuma).

On the paper it make sense, but in the writing, he will sometimes overlook some ethical aspects which blur the lines between what is acceptable and non acceptable. This is why I don't like the fact that he sexualized Carrot for exemple . Take the exemple of Momo, I love his story as an art piece, but ethically I don't like the fact that he is not really allowed to have a real childhood. It's his choice yes, he might have needed to step up due to the material situation of Wano and his status, yes. But it's still a baby that needs protection and care, not a country to rule.

It's this a kind of sexist/patriarcal blindness pushed by japanese blurry standards that bugs me in the rare occasion it happens. At least there is a clear "stop" from Brook here.

Outside of that it's a nice flashback, nothing crazy for now just a bit of setup.

I'm just random guessing but the real definition is pretty close.
Candlepower / Candela: Historically, a unit of luminous intensity (originally defined by a standard wax candle). In modern physics, it has been largely superseded by the candela.
This is even further from her name, in Japanese. The reference seems irresistible to English speakers given how names in manga are almost always these kinds of puns, and there could be one, but it's not one of these obvious words. Which is why the translators aren't going 1:1 in their spelling.

Shamrock is bonneys dad not garling
I think Garling singled Ginny out as the individual who caused God Valley by leaking the information, and wanted revenge personally on her and Kuma, since he also ruined the "game" for Garling.

I think Super Sommers then poisoned the Devil Fruit serum Saturn gave to Ginny in order to kill both of them to spite Garling.

I think Saturn's experiment was seeing whether or not you could administer a devil fruit to a child while they were still in their mother as a baby.

Super Sommers took advantage of this to poison both of them with sapphire scales.

Could very well be Shamrock, though, we have very little of his personality.

I think that's bad. Hopefully, Oda won't make all the Holy Knights victims of Imu's manipulation.
Why is it bad? Gunko’s storyline ending here doesn’t make sense, I believe that she’ll still follow Imu when she’s released due to the deep sea covenant overwriting her personality.

what is likely to happen is Brook’s final fight in the series will be against her

Oda has a simple rule that I generally like following as well.

It's fine for kids to flirt with adults, because that's how kids are. If teenagers weren't horny and capable of making bad decisions, parents would have way less problems.

Any adult that is trying to seduce young people is a freaky scumbag. This is why view age gap relationships differently than most. I view them completely differently based on whether or not it's a young person pursuing an adult or the other way around. Young people falling in love with people older than them and then growing up to marry them is one of the most common things that's happened in the history of humanity. It's called aging. Like Sakura'a parents in Card Captor Sakura. Two people that love each other, that had an age ga. That's about it.

This is why I generally hate society, because its allowing the freakiest ass age gaps imaginable for the upper classes and then complaining about romeo and juliet relationships out the other side of their ass when it's poor kids.

Oda generally is really good with not portraying kids in a lewd manner.

The anime did some stuff with Rebecca that disgusted me, but that was the point that Doflamingo is a disgusting person who dehumanizes and treats women like shit.

The only two maga characters that really bother me are Momo and S-Snake.

Momo's creepy behavior being whitewashed away because he's a kid in royalty is gross, and i've just seen enough shit from mong and anime to know when people are drawing a younger character in an erotic manner, and S-Snake was actually the first character in this series Ibelieve fits that bill.

Even with Bonney, a little girl wanting to use her powers to appear more beautiful, and more adult is a really normal thing for kids to want. Oda is fine, and then toway showed up and just god. Why.

I'm just really glad that brook is neither simping for the young princess nor seriously trying to do adultery here. Brook just loves Candel because she saved him and she's a wonderful person. This is just a kid having a crush on the woman who saved them and then her daughter having a crush on him because he's a cool guy.

I think this flashback is fine so far.

What's nutty about Bonney's powers is she's already turned herself into gear five and as far as we know, she's not awakened at all.

I think Bonney's awakening will allow her to age people down permanently.

I think Tama and Bonney will both get Shinobu's Fruit used on them and grow old, 28, then Bonney will turn them all back into kids at the end of the series.

I was low key terrified for a few years that oda was gonna push Yamato x Momo, but, now my ship trash brain has convinced myself that we're gonna get Yamato x Hiyori instead. I think Hiyori is going to be the person to finally get it through yamato's head that Yamato is Yamato and not Oden.

The real fear I have is that I think Carrot x Katakuri is going to happen, and if that does happen, everyone is going to lose their fucking minds.

At the very least, they're going to become friends. I think Katakuri is going to deliver Pedro's corpse to the Minks to be buried.

For S - Snake there was a big missconception on this by the fanbase. S snake is viewed as cute is the sense "kawaii" Pikachu style. This is still a form of love that petrifies, but do not sexualize (gladly). The problem with S-snake is elsewhere , in the weaponization of kids mainly (i'm not judging too fast since these kids could still be just trained AI machines without real free will or conscience)

I'm not sure that we should talk about sexualization in the case of Momo (what he does is frankly not something new or something that never happens either in real life. Some boys under patriarchy tends to develop a gross sexual arousal very quickly, it doesn't pop at 18), these are not the same depiction and objectification in my opinion, it's more of a gross quirk than anything else I think. The problem arrives when people think that kid are the same as adult, which they are not, they have no responsibility or conscience in this matter (so the problem is rather the reactions of the boys in front of him than Momo himself, but these guys are perv anyway so.. no surprise there).

To me. The problem with momo his the agency of the child that is kind of taken away by the story and his forced maturing. It's cool and all in the context of the story (I even cried myself when I saw him rise to power), but he needs protection and care, he is still a kid.

I like the flashback too. There is reallyt nothing to complaint to much about here. The story of Brook is fine thus far, it's a nice relationship between the kid and the protagonist, there is an interesting subtext of tragedy incoming. I really don't get the complains. People needs to learn patience.

It fells like they started reading weekly yesterday.

The real fear I have is that I think Carrot x Katakuri is going to happen, and if that does happen, everyone is going to lose their fucking minds.
It will never happen don't worry lol. I don't even know why you are thinking it would

Charlotte Linlin was dropped off at Elbaph by her birth parents to never return.[77] She gets taken care of by Mother Carmel.[78]
Shortly after Loki's birth, his mother Queen Estrid throws him into Elbaph's underworld yet he crawls himself out,[79] Loki seemingly kills the royal family's lucky horse afterward.[80]
On the seventh day of fasting, five days before the Winter Solstice Festival, Linlin destroys a village on Elbaph over a craving of semla,[81] killing Jorul in the process.[82] The Sheep's House leaves Elbaph.[83]
February 15th[84]: Sometime after the Sheep's House celebrates Linlin's "sixth birthday", Linlin was left alone.[85] Elbaph became so repugnant of Linlin that they refrain from saying her name.[86]
Streusen joins with Linlin to create a "dream country" on the island at the center they were in which eventually came to be Whole Cake Island and the rest of the surrounding islands, to be named Totto Land.[87]

Characters that could be important in Brook's flashback:

1. Big Mom. Whether it's their age, their soul base powers their love of music, Brook and Linlin are tied together like strings on an instrument.

Linlin's Elbaph and Carmel I ate the Kids flashback occurred sixty three years ago, when Brook and Shuri were 27 and 14 respectively. Shuri is older than Big Mom. Ain't that something.

Big Mom was recruited by Mother Carmel, a WG Agent masquerading as a religious woman running an orphanage. While we could see more of Linlin's early life, I think it's more likely we get more of...

2. Mother Carmel. I believe that Shuri was sought after by the celestial dragons because of her eyes. Mihawk, Sanji, Zoro, Pudding, Viola, Imu. This is a series where eye designs have serious meaning. Shuri's heterochromia is connected to some ancient tribe and their lineage factor.

Like Linlin, Shuri was targetted for her potential to be raised and molded by the world government as a soldier.

Since Carmel was active during this period, this is the year big mom ate her, and since this flashback also involves a female character brook knows, I think we'll see Carmel in this flashback in some capacity.

Also, Candel and Carmel are very similar names. It's entirely possible they have some connection. And Carmel should also know of...

3. Loki. Loki was born this year and tossed into the underworld by his mother. There's a good chance we're going to again at least some more of loki's early life lore here.

I want to see if Carmel interracted with Estrid. If Carmel craved loki as a potential recruit for the world government, it would make sense that she would try to poison Estrid against her own son, so that Carmel could steal him.

However, Linlin forced Carmel to abandon her plans to recruit loki for the world government and kidnap him, because Linlin had to leave the country. Carmel did however alert the world government to Loki's potential. This is likely one of the reasons the god knights sought to recruit him. Speaking of people that live high up...

4. Haredas and the Wizards of Weatherly Place

Weatheria is the floating sky island that Nami met a bunch of sugar daddys on during the time, skip. I mean, met a bunch of cool wizard dudes.

Haredas and Weatheria were formed over a teo year period 67-66 years ago. So, Weatheria was created in the middle of brooks flashback.

Because of this, I could see them definitely showing up here in some capacity.

5. Harald. Harald was in fishman island and wano seventy years ago.

Harald obviously knew Carmel, and i'm interested to see that meeting.

Harald might have met Haredas in Weatheria.

But, did Harald know Esperia, and Candel?

63 years ago is also when Harald returned to Elbaph with food he received from nations he had allied with.

I'm willing to bet that one of these nations was Esperia, and that Harald and Candel were friends.

We should see Harald soon, as well.
