The problem is that nearly all Portuguese players still see Ronaldo as a role model and national idol.
There is frustration ofc when he walks over somebody else's chances like with Bruno this game. But they still use him and his achievements as a measuring stick for themselves. Like it or not he is their biggest legend and a player nearly all of them grew up watching.
The people that could MAYBE knock some sense into him are his former peers/legends that were there when he started out in the NT - Figo, Pauleta, Pepe etc
But the only real difference maker is Ronaldo himself. And as long there's something left to prove he won't stop trying, for better or worse.
However, it needs to be said and underlined that Portugal's problems don't boil down to Ronaldo bad at all. Roberto Martinez is a known trash manager who already ruined one golden generation of players in another country. Portugal's whole game after the first goal became a let's-get-it-over-with ordeal with no vision behind it
