Sasuke was different sauce from the start though. Sasuke was a true rival, and considered Naruto's better or at least equal for the majority of the series. This was reinforced in the actual story.

Entirely different situation here. It's been obvious that Sanji and Zoro were essentially equals from very early on. It became apparent around the time of Little Garden, given their parallels to Dorry and Brogy. EL emphasised this further with their opponents.

I don't even see why it is such an insult to Zoro fans that he's a little better than Sanji. Bro has managed to outscale (albeit minimally) a genetically modified super soldier who also has access to Haki without access to a DF. Most of the OP world could only wish to be so accomplished.
