We saw what his “baseline mindset” was when as an 8 year old Sanji was willing to fight to the death against a group of pirates by himself while all the adults around him cowered in fear
Why not awaken conqueror at that time then?
Ace, Katakuri, yamato, doffy did it almost like that.
His conqueror would be far more acceptable if that was the case.

HeroesNZ? Yeah it’s like… painful watching people continue to bring up that Sanji panel

It just proves to me that these guys didn’t read or watch the arc. Or they didn’t pay attention to that section due to biases they have

That Sanji panel exist as setup for his conversation with Zeff which proves that that’s not who Sanji really is. That wasn’t his “baseline mindset” that’s who he became under Zeff due to a debt he owed

The arc spells this out in plain language. It’s just that some people (most of them coincidentally being Zoro fans) choose to completely ignore what the story is telling them
Unironical gaslighting or coping mechanism at this point.

Sanji got introduced fighting against adults, starving as a kid longer than adult zoro without food in his intro, the arc litterarly spelling out by zeff that he has the same spear as luffy

Like i already told @Mr. Reloaded must be a self-preservation mechanism to defend all those dumb ass accumalted over the years takes i cant explain it otherwise

You could say the same thing about Zoro, no?

Why did it take a fight with Kaido for him to unlock conqueror’s? Why didn’t he have it earlier in life?

The real reason is that Oda had to establish Luffy as the first in line for the ability. That’s why Luffy had it and actively used it for hundreds of chapters before Zoro awakened it

That’s another thing too. People don’t seem to realize that there’s an order to these things

Luffy is 1, Zoro is 2, Sanji is 3

Sanji was never going to awaken conqueror’s haki before Zoro because Zoro sits above him in the hierarchy

Not even just the same spear as Luffy but the same spear as Zoro too

In that same arc it’s emphasized that Zoro, just like Luffy, would rather die than face defeat

The “spear of grit” speech perfectly encapsulates Sanji’s character and also his vow when it comes to not hitting women. He won’t bend or budge on that for anyone or anything, even if it kills him

If Zoro had such moment in his life before.
Bro dominated east blue.
Reality check came from Mihawk.

Pre time skip, conqueror wasn't even known to people until amazon lily or marineford 'properly'.
Post time skip, Zoro was never pushed to extreme until kaidou.

Then how come Zoro started using CoA, Ryou, AdCoC before luffy?

Baratie clearly shows Sanji’s baseline mindset was that an ambition is not worth dying for. It’s not debatable, it’s fact in black and white. You can argue that he changed but you cannot defend this point.

The difference is that Sanji had no plan nor intention to eventually escape and return on WCI. He completely gave up and despaired. He at least had the opportunity to think about a solution and made no such effort, he was totally done with any and all ambition including making Luffy Pirate King. Zoro’s situation with Kuma was completely different. For Zoro to escape there he’d have to actively sacrifice Luffy’s life which he’d never do. No different to Luffy telling everyone to run on Saboady but at least he brought everyone back together and didn’t give up like Sanji.

Sanji’s character is about kindness and chivalry not dominance or leadership, unlike Law who is an equally prevalent and overall stronger character who does have those qualities.

Killer shares Zoro/Luffy’s dynamic with Kid so not sure why you’re using him as evidence against me here — if Kid comes back stronger and ends up a high top-tier it wouldn’t be far fetched at all for Killer to awaken CoC. Furthermore, Law’s equal status portrayal with Luffy and Kid — two conquerors, is insanely huge for his case. Clearly, Law Kid and Luffy are framed as the top 3 pirates of the new gen bar BB, separated from everyone else.

Again, I have no issues with Sanji getting CoC. But it’s perfectly reasonable to have a problem with Sanji suddenly awakening CoC and Law not doing so when Law objectively has a much stronger case. Thus, I hope Law gets CoC too.
Baratie shows that Sanji rejected dying for his own ambition. It does not show an absence of will(haki). In that same conflict, he allowed Pearl to beat him nearly to death because surrendering the Baratie meant surrendering Zeff’s life and dream. Sanji was fully prepared to die; he placed another person’s cause above his own. You have silently converted CoC into “willingness to die specifically for your personal ambition,” a criterion the manga has never established.

i agree that WCI shows Sanji genuinely despairing and failing to formulate a solution. But the people being gambled were Zeff, his crew and even the family he hated. His kindness and pathological tendency to carry everyone’s survival alone destroyed his judgment. Chapter 856 confirms that he still wanted to return; he simply believed every available escape condemned somebody else. Oden similarly surrendered his authority, reputation and initiative for five years to protect hostages. Ace abandoned his own Pirate King pursuit to advance Whitebeard’s. Temporary surrender and placing others above your ambition plainly coexist with CoC. This has never been an issue in the past, but now that Sanji enters the game, it’s an „asspull“.

“Sanji is about kindness, not dominance or leadership” creates another criterion only when discussing Sanji. Kindness describes what his will serves, not how powerful it is. Zoro’s character is primarily built around swordsmanship, discipline and loyalty, rather than ruling people. Rayleigh, Gaban, Ace and Katakuri also served another person. CoC has never required someone’s defining character theme to be dominance.

Your Killer answer concedes my argument. Chapter 1000 includes Killer in the same new-generation framing. Saying he might qualify later if he becomes stronger means that framing alone certifies nobody. Law being grouped with Luffy and Kid establishes his status among the leading pirates of his generation; it does not transfer every ability possessed by the other two. Their equal post-Wano bounties did not make Law an Emperor either, right?

Law has a very strong and more conventional case for CoC. But you calling Sanji-without-Law an asspull turns your personal ranking into a canon eligibility rule.

Across these replies, the supposed requirement has moved from never abandoning ambition, to dominance, to leadership, to strength, and finally to association with other conquerors. Every version is applied wherever it elevates Law over Sanji. I respect the „faith“.

New Diable Jambe upgrade, but maybe later, not necessarily in this fight with Ultra Killingham.
When he will manage to fully integrate aCoC with hotter flames -> Black Leg (flames) Sanji
Noir Jambe
:steef:

Noir means black in french right?

Given sanji attack names follow french dish/cuisine or whatever.

I still think Sanji needs ranged attacks. Even Garp has them. Maybe ACoC will allow him to project his attacks outwards like Garp's Galaxy Impact.

Damn, I never expected to see you again. I was surprised you didn’t drop in earlier tho. You were the most active when Sanji was shat on the regular & missed all the moments from IJ to now?!
Life got busier for some months and i drifted away from posting here. I've been lurking though. Still reading spoilers and looking through the threads every now and then.

However i spent too much time debunking arguments about Sanji not having the qualities of a Conqueror while i was active, to not acknowledge now Gaban straight out telling us that he does, and that he must become a King for Luffy to become the King of the Pirates.

And with this

Oda also settles two other extensive arguments i had about the significance of Luffy's words towards Sanji at Whole Cake

and the significance of Robin's statement

single-handedly refuting the "Sanji's strength is not a significant factor" angle.
